Radio: Love on Air (2009) Movie Synopsis
Radio is a Bollywood Comedy Drama Film released on 4 December 2009. The film features famous Music Director & Composer Himesh Reshammiya in the lead role. Shenaz Treasurywala and Sonal Sehgal also played pivotal roles in the film. Ishaan Trivedi has directed the film whereas Ravi Agarwal has produced it.
Film Story or Movie Plot
Vivan (Himesh Reshammiya) is an effective RJ on a famous radio divert in the city of Mumbai. He tells the solution of personal problems of the people through radio but is entangled in his own life. He has gained everything throughout everyday life except his marriage is ineffective.
Even though he does not want separation from his wife Pooja (Sonal Sehgal) who takes legal separation from him. Pooja also does not want to be separated from Vivan but the absence of similarity between them and high speed of life & occupied timetables compels her to make the separation. Moreover, both believe that they can be good friends, but not husband-wife.
Soon Shanaya Dhingra (Shenaz Treasurywala) enters into the world of Vivan on the same day the divorce occurs. She resembles a beam of daylight in his vapid life and over a few days, the altercation turns into friendship. However, at first, Vivan doesn't understand that Shanaya carries a grin on his face.
The ratings of Vivaan's show begin to fall and to save her show, Vivaan makes Shanaya a mystery girl who loves him via radio. On the other hand, Shanaya starts loving Vivaan.
Sanaya and Vivan start coming closer to each other and on the other hand, Pooja misses Vivan and wants to get back to his life. Pooja meets Vivan intending to tell him that she wants to come back. However, she could not tell him because of glaringly talks about Shanaya with Pooja. Being a lady, Pooja can see his affection for Shanaya.
Vivan turns into the impetus to bring this acknowledgment that his genuine affection is Shanaya. Why has he shut his eyes? His demeanor and reaction towards Shanaya experience an ocean of progress. Vivan responds and attempts to draw near to her family as well. Although Pooja has a weakness for Vivan and focuses on him she understands that he needs to consume his time on earth with Shanaya.
Who will be in the long run rule on his heart? Will he make the move to make his pledges with Shanaya or he would understand the feeling of Pooja; is rest of the story.
Film Review
Himesh Reshammiya is a very talented Music Director and Composer but as far as acting is concerned the same is not his cup of tea. No matter whether he is making romance, doing comedy, or singing a song; his expression almost remains the same.
Himesh starting his acting carrier with Aashiq Banaya Aapne (2005) the film became very popular, especially amongst youngsters. However, it was Emraan Hashmi who grabbed the limelight.
Himesh also tried his luck in Karzzzz (2008) which was a remake of the movie Karz (1980) starring Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, and Simi Grewal. Himesh did a bit well however a poor screenplay and other bad aspects did a better job.
As stated earlier, Himesh is a talented Music director and composer so you can bear him in a five-minute music video, but Himesh's pathetic acting becomes difficult to bear in the entire film.
'Radio' has been given a modern and youthful look and has been made keeping in mind the generation clinging to Facebook, and Twitter, but the question arises whether it likes Himesh as a generation actor?
Direction
This simple story is presented in a complex manner by director Ishaan Trivedi. He has divided the film into 15 chapters like a book and named each chapter. He has adopted this method to hide the shortcomings of the film i.e. weak story and acting of Himesh. It seems that they have added a lot of pieces that are not in a fixed order. This presentation is experimental and good, but not jarringly liked by all.
Himesh Reshammiya's music is excellent. Some songs like Mana Radio, Teri Meri Dosti, Zindagi Ek Radi are sweet, but the film does not give much footage to these songs, which has not done justice to this hit music.
Most of the actors in acting have been disappointed. Sonal Sehgal tried his best but could not make it happen. Paresh Rawal has overcome stupid jokes. Zakir Hussain, a good actor, has overperformed in the film. Shahnaz Treasurywala's performance can be said over average.
Every frame of the film has been made beautiful and the art director has worked hard for it. Many experiments have been done in editing and there are many cuts in every scene.
However, no film can leave its mark only based on cinematography or art directions. Poor screenplay and average direction with underperformances of almost all actors made the film pathetic to watch.
Rating
IMDB users have given very poor ratings to the film i.e. 2.9 out of 10. However, Bollywood Product rates the film 4 out of 10.
