Bobby (1973) is a Musical Romantic Bollywood Movie released on 28 September, 1973 (India). The movie was produced and directed by Raj Kapoor, the first Showman of Indian Cinema who was nominated for Best Film and Best Director Award in the 21st Filmfare Awards. However the award went to Yash Chopra for Daag.Â
Bobby was written by Jainendra Jain (Dialogue) whereas story was written by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas who had also co-written the screenplay alongwith V.P. Sathe. The movie proved Blockbuster on Box Office by earning Rs. 30 Crores and also became the Highest Grossing Bollywood Movie of the year 1973 followed by Jugnu, Daag, Zanjeer and Yaadon Ki Baaraat. It was also became the Second Highest Grossing Movie of 70s after Sholey that grossed 35 Crores worldwide.Â
Bobby (1973) stars Rishi Kapoor in his first lead role and Dimple Kapadia that made her bollywood debut with this movie. It was also the first movie of Rishi Kapoor as a lead actor. Earlier Rishi Kapoor acted in Mera Naam Joker as a child artist. Pran, Prem Nath, Pram Chopra, Aruna Irani, Pinchoo Kapoor, Jagdish Raj, Farida Jalal and Sonia Sahni played supporting roles in the movie. Prem Nath and Aruna Irani were nominated for Filmfare Best Male and Female Actress, respectively.Â
Bobby (1973) dominated the 21st Filmfare Awards held in 1974 by getting nominations for 14 Awards. However, it won 5 Awards including Best Actor-Rishi Kapoor, Best Actress-Dimple Kapaida who shared the Award with Jaya Bhaduri for Abhimaan.
Music for Bobby (1973) was composed by musical duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Lyrics were penned by Anand Bakshi and Vitthalbhai Patel. The team together they created some unforgettable song like Beshak Mandir Todo sung by Narendra Chanchal who won Filmfare Best Male Playback Singer for the award. Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kate for which Vitthalbhai Patel was nominated for Filmfare Best Lyricist Award. Main Shayar To Nahi gets double filmfare nominated one for Anand Bakshi and another for Shailendra Singh for Best Lyrics and Best Playback Singer Male, respectively. Anand Baksi was nominated for Best Lyricist for one more song Hum Tum Ek Kamre Me Band Ho.Â
Raj (Rishi Kapoor), a young boy returns from Hostel when he gets 18 years of age. He belongs to a very rich family and his parent Mrs. & Mr. Nath (Pran and Soniya Sahni). Raj meets lively Bobby (Dimple Kapadia) daughter of Mr. and Mr. Braganza (Prem Nath and Durga Khote).Â
Soon, Raj and Bobby come closer and fall in love. But Mr. Nath disapproves their alliance because Bobby belongs to a lower middle class family. Raj leaves his house and elopes with Bobby.
