Drishya 2 [meaning: Visual] is a Kannada language Crime Thriller film released on 10 December 2021. The runtime of the film is 146 Minutes.
Drishya 2 is a sequel to the 2014 Kannada language Crime Thriller film Drishya featuring V. Ravichandran in the lead role and a remake of the 2021 Malayalam film Drishyam 2.
P. Vasu, who directed Drishya (2014), is also the director of Drishya 2 (2021). The original Malayalam film Drishyam 2 and its Telugu remake Drushyam 2 were released directly on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Videos due to national lockdown owing to the Covid-19 epidemic. However, Drishya 2 saw a theatrical release and received positive reviews.
V. Ravichandran as Rajendra Ponnappa, Navya Nair as Seetha, Aarohi Narayan as Sindhu, Unnathi as Shreya, Asha Sharath as Roopa Chandrashekhar, Prabhu as Chandrashekhar, and a few others reprise their characters from Drisha (2014).
The film also features Pramod Shetty, Anant Nag, Achyuth Kumar, Aswathi Naduthodi, Lasya Nagraj, Sadhu Kokila, Shivaram, Sonu Gowda, Srinivasa Prabhu, Suresh Nair, and many others.
Film Drisya 2 connects with its predecessor Drishya (2014). Drishya 2 depicts the story of 6 years later the incident that happened in Drishya.
The life of a simple living man Rajendra Ponnappa (V. Ravichandran), becomes topsy-turvy when his wife, Seetha (Navya Nair), and elder daughter, Aarohi Narayan (Sindhu), accidentally kill Tarun Chandrashekar (Rohith Bhanuprakash), who desires to sexual favour from Sindhu by blackmailing her through a video. The incident happens on the night of 3 August 2013.
Rajendra Ponnappa hides the dead body and destroys all pieces of evidence, leading to his family. Further, Rajendra prepares a foolproof plan to prove that he and his family are not in the town on the day Tarun goes missing. He also creates genuine alibis in his favour.
Tarun is the son of the city Inspector General (IG), Roopa Chandrashekhar (Asha Sarath), and she learns that Rajendra and his family are involved in the missing case of her son.
However, the police department cannot find the body of Tarun because Rajendra hides the dead body in the under-constructed police station in 2013.
The story begins in the early morning (around 4 A.M.), on 3 August 2013, when Anappa is on the run from the police after committing an unplanned murder.
Anappa hides behind the under-constructed police station and witnesses Rajendra (V Ravichandra) coming out of the under-constructed building after hiding the body of Tarun. The police arrest Anappa after a few minutes, and he receives six years of imprisonment.
Rajendra now owns a movie theater and lives happily with his wife and two daughters, Sindhu and Shreya. However, Sindhu now suffers from stress disorder since the police arrested her for her role in Tarun's missing case.
Rajendra wishes to be a film producer and sells a small portion of his house land to Joseph (Sampath), an alcoholic real estate broker, who often abuses his wife Savitha (Lasya Nagraj), a clerk.
Rambabu hires a renowned screenplay writer Vijay Kumar (Ananth Nag), to prepare the screenplay of his film and wants a perfect ending for his crime thriller film.
Savitha (Lasya Nagraj) becomes a good friend of Seetha (Navya Nair) and shares her problems with Seetha, who suggests Savitha make a police complaint against Sanjay, her drunkard husband.
The police feel humiliated because they can not solve the mystery behind Varun's case. They know that Rajendra is behind it, but they are helpless because there is no evidence against Rajendra and his family. Moreover, the police could not find the body of Tarun in the last six years.
Rajendra remains busy with his business and often spends evening time with a security guard, to whom he has promised to give a chance as a lead actor in his film.
Savitha often spends time with Seetha and gives her moral support, especially when Sindhu gets epileptic seizures.
On one such occasion, they discuss the problem of Sindhu. Seetha inadvertently tells the truth about Tarun. However, Seetha does not know the place where Rajendra has hidden Tarun's body.
Prathap Narayan (Pramod Shetty) takes over the new IG. He is the close friend of ex-IG Roopa Chandrashekhar (Asha Sarath) and has planned something to solve the mystery behind Tarun's case.
It reveals that Joseph and Savitha are the undercover cops who are on their job to keep a close watch on Rajendra and his family.
They fixed microphones in Rajendra's house and recorded every conversation. However, Rajendra never disclosed the secret place where he hid the body of Tarun.
After the confession by Seetha before Savitha, two things are clear before the police:
1) Tarun is no more.
2) Tarun was killed on 3 August 2013, and Rajendra disposed of Tarun's body on the same night.
IG orders police teams to find the body in nearby places within 10-15 kilometers. However, police do not find Varun's body.
Annappa, who saw Rajendra coming out from the under-construction police station, gets released from jail after six years. He needs employment and coincidently meets Rajendra in this regard.
Anappa recollects Rajendra's presence in the under-constructed police station and assumes that Rajendra committed the crime and composed the body in the under-constructed police station.
Anappa meets IG Prathap Narayan and asks him to give Rs. 5 lahks if he wants to know the place where Tarun's body was composed.
Ex-IG Roopa Chandrashekhar (Asha Sarath) and her husband Chandrashekhar (Prabhu), who now live in the USA, return to India and give Rs. 5 lahks to Anappa.
IG Prathap Narayan gets shocked when Anappa informs that Tarun's body is in the police station, under their feet. IG Prathap Narayan takes special permission to excavate the police station.
At the time of excavation, an expert forensic team is available in the police station with a higher rank government official as an independent witness. A videographer shoots the entire process live as a piece of evidence. Soon the police team unearths a human skeleton.
IG Prathap Narayan summons Rajendra and his family for an informal interrogation. Roopa Chandrashekhar (Ex. IG) and Chandrashekhar (Prabhu) are also present during the police investigation.
Rajendra, Seetha, Sindhu, and Shreya manage to maintain their alibi. However, when IG shows the voice recording of Seetha, in which she confesses the crime before Savitha, Sindhu gets baffled and receives a post-traumatic attack.
Rajendra requests IG Prathap for a medical assistant. However, IG wants to know the truth first. Distraught, Rajendra confesses on camera that he killed Tarun. He also clarifies that his family has nothing to do with the crime. In this way, he saves his family.
Police arrest Rajendra and release other family members. Ex. IG Roopa is not satisfied and wants the entire family to be punished. However, IG Prathap shows his helplessness since Rajendra has confessed to the crime.
Police produce Rajendra in court with the allegations of Tarun's murder. The police bring the confession video of Rajendra and the human skeleton found in the police station.
However, surprisingly Rajendra denies all allegations and tells the court that police forcefully compelled him to record a false confession.
In the meantime, the DNA report of the human skeleton reaches the court, and even more surprisingly, Tarun's DNA does not match the dead body unearthed in the police station.
Whose skeleton was in the police station, whereas Rajendra hid Tarun's body in the under-constructed police station? How Rajendra planned to save his family?
Film Drishyam 2 gives replies to all such queries.
