Drishyam 2 (2021) [Film] Synopsis
Drishyam 2: The Resumption [meaning: Visual-Begining again], popularly known as Drishyam 2, is a Malayalam language Crime Thriller film released on 19 February 2021 directly on the OTT platform Prime Videos due to national lockdown owing to the Covid-19 epidemic. The runtime of the film is 153 Minutes.
Drishyam 2 is a sequel to the 2013 Malayalam language Crime Thriller film Drishyam (2013) featuring Mohanlal in the lead role. Jeethu Joseph, the director of Drishyam (2013), also directed Drishyam 2 (2021).
The 2014 Kannada-language film Drishya, the 2014 Telugu-language film Drushyam, and the 2015 Tamil-language film Papanasam are remakes of the 2013 Malayalam language film Drishyam.
Drishyam (2013) was the first Malayalam movie to collect Rs. 50 Crore at the Worldwide Box Office (total Rs. 75 Crores during its entire run), and became one of the Highest Grossing Malayalam Movies of all time. The commercial success of Drishyam paved the way for its sequel.
The 2021 Kannadalanguage film Drishya 2, and the 2021 Telugu language film Drushyam 2, are remakes of the 2021 Malayalam language film Drishyam 2.

Movie Plot
Film Drishyam 2 connects with its predecessor Drishyam (2013). Drishyam 2 depicts the story of 6 years later the incident that happened in Drishyam.
A short synopsis of Drishyam (2013)
The life of a simple living man Georgekutty (Mohanlal), becomes topsy-turvy when his wife, Rani (Meena), and elder daughter, Anju (Ansiba Hassan), accidentally kill Varun Prabhakar (Roshan Basheer), who desires to sexual favour from Anju by blackmailing her through a video. The incident happens on the night of 2 August 2013.
Georgekutty hides the dead body and destroys all pieces of evidence, leading to his family. Further, Georgekutty prepares a foolproof plan to prove that he and his family are not in the town on the day Varun goes missing. He also creates genuine alibis in his favour.
Varun is the son of the city Inspector General (IG), Geetha Prabhakar (Asha Sharath), and she learns that Georgekutty and his family are involved in the missing case of her son.
However, the police department cannot find the body of Varun because Georgekutty hides the dead body in the same police station, which was under construction in 2013.
Drishyam 2 (2021) Movie Plot
The story begins in the early morning (around 4 A.M.), on 3 August 2013, when Jose George (Ajith Koothattukulam) is on the run from the police after committing an unplanned murder.
Jose George hides behind the under-constructed police station and witnesses Georgekutty (Mohanlal) coming out of the under-constructed building after hiding the body of Varun. The police arrest Jose George after a few minutes, and he receives six years of imprisonment.
After six years
Georgkutty now owns a movie theater and lives happily with his wife and two daughters, Anju and Anu. However, Anju now suffers from stress disorder since the police arrested her for her role in Varun's missing case.
Georgekkutty wishes to be a film producer and sells a small portion of his house land to Sabu (Sumesh Chandran), an alcoholic real estate broker, who often abuses his wife Saritha (Anjali Nair), a clerk.
Georgkutty hires a renowned screenplay writer Vinayachandran (Sai Kumar), to prepare the screenplay of his film and wants a perfect ending for his crime thriller film.
Saritha becomes a good friend of Rani and shares her problems with Rani, who suggests Saritha make a police complaint against Sabu, her drunkard husband.
Progress in Varun's missing case
The police feel humiliated because they can not solve the mystery behind Varun's case. They know that Georgekutty is behind it, but they are helpless because there is no evidence against Georegekutty and his family. Moreover, the police could not find the body of Varun in the last six years.
Disclosure of secret by Rani
Georgekutty remains busy with his business and often spends evening time with a security guard, to whom he has promised to give a chance as a lead actor in his film.
Saritha often spends time with Rani and gives her moral support, especially when Anju gets epileptic seizures.
On one such occasion, they discuss the problem of Anju. Rani inadvertently tells the truth about Varun. However, Rani does not know the place where Georgekutty has hidden Varun's body.
Shocking revelation
Thomas Bhasin (Murali Gopy) takes over the new IG. He is the close friend of ex-IG Geetha Prabhakar (Asha Sharath) and has planned something to solve the mystery behind Varun's case.
It reveals that Sabu and Saritha are the undercover cops who are on their job to keep a close watch on Georgekutty and his family.
They fixed microphones in Georgekutty's house and recorded every conversation. However, Georgekutty never disclosed the secret place where he hid the body of Varun.
After the confession by Rani before Saritha, two things are clear before the police:
1) Varun is no more.
2) Varun was killed on 2 August 2013, and Georgekutty disposed of Varun's body on the same night.
IG orders police teams to find the body in nearby places within 10-15 kilometers. However, police do not find Varun's body.
Twist in the story
Jose George (Ajith Koothattukulam), who saw Georgekutty coming out from the under-construction police station, gets released from jail after six years. He needs employment and coincidently meets Georgekutty in this regard.
Jose recollects Georgekutty's presence in the under-constructed police station and assumes that Georgekutty committed the crime and composed the body in the under-constructed police station.
Jose meets IG Thomas and asks him to give Rs. 5 lahks if he wants to know the place where Varun's body was composed.
Ex-IG Geeta Prabhakar (Asha Sharath) and her husband Prabhakar (Siddique), who now live in the USA, return to India and give Rs. 5 lahks to Jose.
IG Thomas gets shocked when Jose informs that Varun's body is in the police station, under their feet. IG Thomas takes special permission to excavate the police station.
At the time of excavation, an expert forensic team is available in the police station with a higher rank government official as an independent witness. A videographer shoots the entire process live as a piece of evidence. Soon the police team unearths a human skeleton.
Confession of the crime
IG Thomas summons Georegekutty and his family for an informal interrogation. Geetha and Prabhakar are also present during the police investigation.
Georgekutty, Rani, Anu, and Anju manage to maintain their alibi. However, when IG shows the voice recording of Rani, in which she confesses the crime before Saritha, Anju gets baffled and receives a post-traumatic attack.
Georgekutty requests IG Thomas for a medical assistant. However, IG wants to know the truth first. Distraught, Georgekutty confesses on camera that he killed Varun. He also clarifies that his family has nothing to do with the crime. In this way, he saves his family.
Police arrest Georgekutty and release other family members. Ex. IG Geetha is not satisfied and wants the entire family to be punished. However, IG Thomas shows his helplessness since Georgekutty has confessed to the crime.
The biggest and most stunning twist
Police produce Georgekutty in court with the allegations of Varun's murder. The police bring the confession video of Georgekutty and the human skeleton found in the police station.
However, surprisingly Georgekutty denies all allegations and tells the court that police forcefully compelled him to record a false confession.
In the meantime, the DNA report of the human skeleton reaches the court, and even more surprisingly, Varun's DNA does not match the dead body unearthed in the police station.
Whose skeleton was in the police station, whereas Georgekutty hid Varun's body in the under-constructed police station? How Georekully planned to save his family? Film Drishyam 2 gives replies to all such queries.
