Harkara [meaning: Postman in Bangla language] is an Indian Tamil-language Biographical History Drama film released in cinemas on August 25, 2023.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) issued a UA rating to the Tamil-language film, Harkara, vide certificate No. DIL/1/50/2023-Che dated August 22, 2023. The runtime of the film is 125 Minutes and 16 Seconds.
Harkara depicts the story of Gaganchandra Dam, popularly known as Gagan Harkara.
The story begins in 1845 with the birth of Gaganchandra Dam. He was born in Kasba village in Kumarkhali Upazila in Kushtia in present-day Bangladesh.
As Gaganchandra was a postman at Shelaidaha Post Office in Kumarkhali, people used to address him as Harkara, which stands for the postman in Bengali.
Ram Arun Castro and Kaali Venkat play pivotal roles in Harkara. The film also features Pichaikkaran Moorthy, Gauthami Chowdary, Jaya Prakash, and many others.
Kali, a 33-year-old who just started a job as a postman in a remote mountain village near Theni district, faces challenges fitting in with the villagers.
He becomes frustrated by this situation. With his friend Magizh, who works at the collector's office in Theni, Kali devises a plan to manipulate the innocent villagers.
Their goal is to permanently shut down the post office so they can escape from the villagers' peculiar behaviors.
During his journey, Kali encounters a traveler who shares the story of a Harkara, one of the earliest postmen to have lived in these mountains about 150 years ago.
However, as Kali attempts to execute his plan, he starts to wonder if it's too late to undo the actions taken by him.
