Movie Plot

Dhanraj (Amrish Puri) runs a cunning mill owner. Vijay Saxena (Shatrughan Sinha) is the honest and upright Union Leader who fights for justice for the mill employees.

On the occasion of the birthday of Dhanraj, the mill employees give him a cheque of 10 Lakh rupees being their contribution and seek shareholding in the mill. Since Vijay supports the employees, Dhanraj has to accept the proposal.

At the year's end, Dhanraj manipulates the accounts and shows a heavy loss. Vijay confronts Dhanraj and becomes a threat to him. Dhanraj now makes a foul plan to trap Vijay.

Story of Vijay

Vijay was in love with Vidya (Sumalatha), but her father (Satyendra Kapoor) refused their marriage proposal due to Vijay's lower social and financial status. Later Vidya meets with an accident and loses her eyesight.

Vijay still loves Vidya but does not know about her blindness. He meets Jyoti (Sridevi), the younger sister of Vidya, and soon learns about his blindness of Vidya. Since Vijay loves Vidya deeply, he marries her.

Jyoti gets married to her love interest Jaikishan Verma (Jackie Shroff), an honest and upright police Inspector, and starts living happily.

A twist in the story

An employee (Bharat Bhushan) loses his leg during a machine failure. Vijay fixes 50,000rupees for his compensation, for which Dhanraj reluctantly agrees.

Dhanraj makes a plan with another employee Mohan (Vikas Anand) and gives him 60000 rupees to ruin the reputation of Vijay. Mohan gives 10000 rupees to the injured employee.

When Vijay learns it, he wants to confront Mohan for his wrongdoing, but his motorbike breaks down. Vijay sees Jyoti (Srivdevi) on her motorbike and requests a lift to Mohan's house. Jyoti leaves after dropping Vijay.

The biggest twist

Vijay enters Mohan's house and sees that Mohan is badly injured and a knife is stuck in his chest. Vijay pulls out the knife to save the life of Mohan, but Inspector Jaikishan enters the crime scene and arrests Vijay.

Jyoti tries to explain to Jaikishan that Vijay is not the killer, but Jaikishan is duty-bound and fights the case in a trial court, and Vijay gets capital punishment.

Jyoti is heartbroken and leaves Jaikishan's house forever. She determines to save Vijay by hook or by crook. Jyoti meets one of the renowned defense lawyers (Ashok Kumar) to reopen the case. The defense lawyer shows his helplessness since no evidence supports Vijay's innocence.

Jyoti now decides to go against the law and collect false shreds of evidence to prove that Vijay was with her in a hotel room at the time the murder took place. However, this statement ruins her personal life, and her own sister and father believe she has an illicit affair with Vijay.

Who killed Mohan? What will happen to Vijay? What will happen to the relationship between Jyoti and Jaikishan? Will Jyoti be able to prove her innocence?
