Sooraj (Jackie Shroff) and Karamveer (Sanjay Dutt) are two brothers who live in a village where the evil Thakur Sher Bahadur Singh (Amrish Puri) dominates the entire village and local police due to his power and money.
Sooraj takes loan from Sher Bahadur and for his higher studies and leaves the village for the very purpose. But Sher Bahadur wants to settle some score with the family for which Sooraj was an obstacle as such he not illiterate like rest of the villagers including his family. As soon as Sooraj leaves the village Sher Bahadur starts torturing and exploiting his family members who do not utter a single word due to higher education of Sooraj. Things take drastic changes when Sooraj returns home.
