The movie was produced by Rajendra Bhatia and directed by Mohan Segal Kanyadaan (1968) became superhit on Box Office by earning Rs. 3.2 Crores and also became the Fifth Highest Grossing Bollywood Movie for the year 1968 after Ankhen, Do Kaliyaan, Neel Kamal and Shikar followed by Padosan. Kanyadaan stars Shashi Kapoor Asha Parekh and Om Prakash in lead roles.
Music Director duo Shankar-Jaikishan composed music for Kanyadaan and composed some mesmerizing songs like Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe sung by Mohammed Rafi and lyrics penned by Neeraj, Mil Gaye Mil Gaye & Parayee Hoon Parayee sung by Lata Mangeshkar and lyrics written by Hasrat Jaipuri and Meri Zindgi Me Aate sung by Mohammed Rafi authored by Hasrat Jaipuri.
Kanyadaan (1968) Movie Plot: Amar (Dileep Raj), a Hocky Player and Amar Kumar (Shashi Kapoor), a Poet, are friends but people often get confused with their names. Amar loves Lata (Sayeed Khan) who is also a Hockey Player. Kumar talks to father of Lata and convinces him to get them married.
After some time Kumar’s Car crashes down near a village and he meets (Rekha) Asha Parekh who offers him to take shelter at her home. Kumar deliberately stays there for a long time and in the meantime both Kumar and Rekha fall in love with each other.
Kumar expresses his love to Rekha’s mother but shocked to know that Rekha is already married to a person named Amar in her childhood. Kumar returns home leaving devastated Rekha but returns after some time with childhood pictures of Amar which proves he is the Amar with whom Rekha gets married in the childhood. However, later he reveals to Rekha that the real Amar is already married to Lata and it would be better for Rekha to marry him. But Rekha think she is cheated and goes to end her life but ironically saved by Amar who is married to Rekha in the childhood.
