Dayalu (Anupam Kher) lives in Ramgarh, a rural area. He drives illegal activities capturing banned catching of wildlife animals from the forest. Dayalu is not only a criminal but also a debauched man.
Kaalu (Tej Sapru) works as right hand of Dayalu. The area inspector Kiran (Kiran Kumar) and Forest Police Constable Dhaniram (Mac Mohan) are corrupt officials who support the illegal animal flesh trading of Dayalu.
Kishan Srivastav (Jackie Shroff) is an honest and upright forest officer who takes charge as the Forest Officer in Ramgarh. He is happily married to Jaya (Jaya Prada), and the couple has a young son. Kishan does his best to stop the illegal activities in the forest and thus creates problems for Dayalu.
Jugni (Sridevi) is a mentally disturbed girl. Kaalu (Tej Sapru) tries to molest her, but Kishan saves Jugni and brings her home. He learns that Jugni is in search of her father.
Kishan learns that Jwala Prasad (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) is the father of Jugni and is in jail. Kishan brings Jugni before her father, but she does not recognize her father.
Jwala Prasad works as a blacksmith. He learns that Gopal (Sunny Deol) and his daughter Jugni (Sri Devi) love each other. Since Gopal is a good man, Jwala Prasad agrees to their marriage but needs money.
On the other hand, Dayalu (Anupam Kher) has an evil eye on Jugni. He gives five thousand rupees to Jwala Prasad to visit the city for shopping.
Jwala Prasad goes to the city, and Dayalu enters his house and tries to molest Jugni. In the meantime, Gopal (Sunny Deol) comes and trashes Dayalu. Gopal wants to kill Dayalu, but Jugni stops him. However, Dayalu treacherously kills Gopal and flees from there.
When Jwala Prasad returns, he finds that Ghopal has dead and his daughter has become mentally unstable. Jwala Prasad vows to kill Dayalu, but Dayalu calls the police and frames Jwala Prasad in the murder of Gopal.
One day Dayalu's men trap a baby elephant in a pit. The helpless mother elephant seeks the help of Kishan while he is with his wife and son. Dayalu's men flee after witnessing Kishan.
Dayalu becomes very angry when he hears that Kishan has rescued a baby elephant. He and his goons kidnap Kishan's son. The mother-baby elephant duo hears the cry and scream of Kishan's son and saves him. However, Dayalu shoots the mother elephant, and she dies. Kishan promises the dying mother elephant to nurture her baby (Ramu) like his son.
Kishan captures a goon who tries to kill him. The goon belongs to Dayalu and confesses when Kishan beats him in the presence of Inspector Kiran (Kiran Kumar) and Forest Constable Dhaniram (Mac Mohan).
Dayalu visits the police station, kills his goon, and frames Kishan for the murder. Dhaniram, the Forest Constable gives false testimony against Kishan. Kishan receives a punishment of seven years of imprisonment.
In the absence of Kihsan, Dayalu tries to molest Jaya, but Ramu becomes the savior of his family from Dayalu. However, the problems for the family have not yet been finished.
How Ramu saves the family? What happens to Jwala Prasad and Kishan? Will Jugni get back her sanity? Who will teach a lesson to Dayalu, and how? Film Main Tera Dushman gives replies to all such queries satisfactorily.
