Mandali (meaning - troupe) narrates the story of an Indian village in Uttar Pradesh, where Ramsewak Choubey (Vineet Kumar) runs a Ramleela Mandali to conduct Ramleela (dramatic re-enactment of the life of lord Rama) every year.
Sitaram (Ashwath Bhatt), the son of Ramsewak, and Purushottam alias Puru (Abhishek Duhan), the nephew of Ramsewak, are an integral part of the Ramleela Mandali. Sitaram portrays the character of Lord Rama in the Ramleela, whereas Puru plays Laxman and other tiny roles.
Puru works as a peon in a school in M.P. owned by Rajiv Narayan (Kanwaljit Singh). On the other hand, Sitaram is a government employee. He is also a habitual of taking drugs.
One day, Sitaram takes drugs before starting the Ramleela play. The organizer and the audience get angry, revolt against Sitaram, and insult Ramsewak because Sitaram portrays the character of Lord Rama, and the villagers want him to be like Lord Rama.
The insult of Ramsevak brings him down, and he dismantles the troupe without discussing it with other artists. However, Puru is against it and joins another troupe run by Naushad (Brijendra Kala) after a hot discussion with his uncle, Ramsewak.
Puru starts portraying the character of Laxman in the troupe of Naushad and receives much appreciation for his acting. It brings him close to Bunty (Aanchal Munjal), who also works in the Mandali. Gradually, Bunty and Puru fall in love with each other.
Bunty reveals her past to Puru that she was in love with Omkar Singh (Rajneesh Duggal), the son of Rajiv Narayan (Kanwaljit Singh), the owner of the school where Puru works as a peon. Bunty further informs that Omkar deceived her by not marrying her.
On the other hand, Omkar wants Puru to marry his relative, Sapna, a divorcee. When Puru refuses to marry Sapna, he gets terminated from the school.
Omkar wants to stop Puru from marrying Bunty at any cost. Unfortunately, Puru also receives opposition from Ramsewak. Thus, when Puru marries Bunty, Ramsewak asks him to make his living arrangements somewhere else. Consequently, Puru starts living in a rented house with his wife, Bunty.
Puru and Bunty start their own Mandali and start Ramleela play. Soon, Puru joins a Ramleela troup, when he faces financial crunches to failure of his own troupe.
One day, Omkar Singh visits to see the Ramleela, where Puru is an actor. He demands Puru to perform a dance wearing a saree, or else Omkar will shut down the Mandali forcefully. When Puru is ready to oblige, Ramsewak stops him from cross-dressing and dancing.
