Mersal (meaning: to destroy) is a 2017 Tamil-language Action Thriller film. Mersal premiered on 17 October 2017 in Paris, France. The film was released worldwide on 18 October 2018.

Budget and Box Office 

The tentative Budget of Mersal was Rs. 120 Crore. The film earned approximately Rs. 260 Crore on Worldwide Box Office Collection. By collecting Rs. 260 Crore (approx.), Mersal became one of the Highest Grossing Tamil films of 2017.

Cast & Crew

Atlee (Arun Kumar) was the Director of Mersal. He was also the Story & Dialogue Writer and one of the Screenplay writers of Mersal. Vijayendra Prasad and Ramanagirivasan were the other Screenplay Writers of Mersal.

H. Murali, Hema Rukmani, and N. Ramasamy jointly produced Mersal. G.K. Vishnu is the Cinematographer, and Antony L. Ruben (as Ruben) was the Film Editor of Mersal.

Ace Music Director A.R. Rahman composed the Music Background Score of Mersal.

Cast

Vijay has played Triple Roles in Mersal. Kajal Aggarwal, S. J. Surya,  Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Nithya Menen, and Vadivelu played pivotal roles in Mersal.

Sathyaraj, Hareesh Peradi, Kovai Sarala, Kaali Venkat, Devadarshini, Motta Rajendran, and Yogi Babu have played supporting roles in Mersal.

Movie Plot (Story)

The film starts with four kidnappings, including a cab driver and three medical professionals, done by Vadivelu (Vadivelu).

Police Officer Randy (Satyaraj) finds a connection between Dr. Anand (name in Hindi Dubbed version played by Vijay) and these kidnappings. Randy arrests Dr. Anand and takes him to a remote place. Randy asks Dr. Anand to tell the true story behind these kidnappings, as Randy knows that Dr. Anand is behind all these kidnappings.

Dr. Anand is a very kind doctor. He takes only Rs. 5 from his patients. He is, thus, very popular among the local people. However, he is now in police custody with his hands tied with Hands Cuff.

Dr. Anand tells the story of an Auto Driver (Kaali Venkat). The daughter of the Auto Driver needed immediate health attention. However, the Cab Driver deliberately drove the family toward a particular private hospital in the greed of some commission.

After that, the doctor and the health worker worked for the money only. The daughter of the Auto Driver died and her mother's mother subsequently suicides immediately.

Dr. Anand clarified that he kidnapped those four for their negligence and the consequent death of the girl child. Dr. Anand also informs the location of those four kidnapped persons. However, police find only the dead bodies of those kidnaped persons.

Dr. Anand also reveals an incident that took place in Paris, France, when he was invited to attend a Medical conference. Dr. Arjun Zachariah (Hareesh Peradi) meets  Dr. Anand and offers to work with him for the sake of money. Dr. Anand refuses the proposal for which Dr. Arjun gives a threat.

Dr. Anand meets Anu Pallavi (Kajal Aggarwal), the assistant of Dr. Arjun. Anand shows some magical tricks and impresses her. He also invites her to watch his magic show in the evening.

Anu visits to watch the show. Dr. Arjun also visits to watch the magic show. Dr. Anand wears a mask on his face to hide his identity and performs some extraordinary magic tricks.

Anand then asks Dr. Arjun to come on stage to be part of his magical act. Dr. Anand kills Dr. Arjun during the act before the entire public and flees.

Dr. Daniel Arokyaraj (S.J. Suryah), head of the State Medical Council, visits the crime scene. Officer Randy (Sathyraj) explains that the killer is not only a magician he is an expert doctor too.

After finishing his story Dr. Anand suddenly plays a magic trick and the Hand Cuff which tied the hands of Dr. Anand now ties the hands of Randy (Sathyaraj). Dr. Anand now reveals a big secret that he is Dev (name in Hindi dubbed film also played by Vijay) brother of Dr. Anand.

Are Dr. Anand and Vijay twin brothers? Who is killing the corrupt Medical Practitioners and their corrupt alliance?  Is it Dr. Anand or Vijay or someone else? How Dr. Daniel Arockiyaraj (S.J. Suryah) is connected in this story? Mersal satisfactorily replies to all these queries.

There are more parallel stories in Mersal. However, telling those stories here will spoil the entire portion of the suspense element in the movie.
