Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi is a Bollywood comedy drama film directed by Seema Pahwa who made her Bollywood directorial debut with the movie.
The film was first released on 17 October 2019 at the Mumbai Film Festival and now the film has been released in theaters on the first day of the New Year i.e. 1 January 2021.
The film deals with self-interviews and truths of life when Ramprasad (Naseeruddin Shah) dies, his entire family, which includes his 6 married children and their entire families, gather under one roof and follow Hindu rituals after death. As per Hindu mythology it takes 13 day to complete entire post bereavement rituals Completes Rivajas, called Tervi, which take 13 days to complete.
In these 13 days the family gets a glimpse of their mobility, politics and insecurity and they learn some lessons about a life they had never felt before.
Known for his acting chops, Seema Pahwa is now making her directorial debut with the multi-starrer family drama Ramprasad's Tahravi.
Using the premise of death, Seema Pahwa's film gives us a realistic look at family relationships in Indian contexts. The film brings together some of the best actors in the Indian film industry who are not known to be successful at the box office, but their performances will surely be treated with respect in Indian film history.
When the film made its premiere at the Mumbai Film Festival, the film was highly appreciated there. Now to see how much Bollywood audiences love this film.
Ramprasad Bhargava (Naseeruddin Shah) lives in an old bungalow with his wife (Supriya Pathak). Their 6 children who are married and they all live with their families. After the death of the father, all of them along with their entire family gather at their father's old bungalow so that the last rites and other rituals of the father can be completed.
According to Indian tradition, the mourning after death lasts for thirteen days, hence the name of this film has also been given as Tehravi of Ramprasad. But as the entire Bhargava family gathers, their differences begin to grow. Old wet shock comes and an endless round of argumentation begins.
Meanwhile, it is learned that Ramprasad has taken a huge loan from banks and this loan will now have to bear the brunt of paying back his children. This news was similar to the bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. What happens next and how this family spends these 13 days together is the story of this film.
Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi is depicted differently from the usual family dramas. That is why the director has not tried to put humor or pain in it, but such situations have been presented that the viewer automatically flows into his emotions naturally.
Seema Pahwa has tried to make the story as authentic as possible and has inspired this film of her own life resulting in a real beautiful portrayal of Ramprasad's Tehravi. In the film family, the changes that occur after the death of the head are shown well. Also, the ups and downs of a relationship are portrayed very beautifully in the film.
Apart from the producer and director of the film, the actors of this film have also given their full contribution to make this film a spectacular film. The film is a realistic depiction of a family and the relationship between them. Manoj Pahwa, as the eldest brother, uses his experience to move towards the best acting and tries to make the most of the lack of humor in the film. Vinay Pathak, Ninad Kamat and Parambrata Chatterjee are also seen doing amazing roles in the roles of other brothers.
Konkona Sen Sharma is also in mourning for the stressful relationship with her husband's family along with the father's mourning. His performance is amazing and his scenes with his mother Supriya Pathak can bring tears to your eyes.
This film is not a masala film. Don't expect too much comedy from characters like Manoj Pahwa and Vinay Pathak to watch the film because it is a serious film that will create situations from time to time that will create humor.
Seema Pahwa has made an impressive directorial debut and in her very first film, she has shown her directorial talent. People from joint families will be more emotionally and entertainingly involved with this film as such incidents are very common in large families.
Overall, due to its excellent story, excellent direction and superb acting, this film becomes a scenic film. However, no specific conclusion is given at the end of this film, nor is there any move towards a happy ending and this is the biggest drawback of this film.
At the same time, the lack of entertainment of this film is missed many times, which may not be liked by the people who went to the theater to watch the movie, spending a lot of money. But after these shortcomings, the film can do good business in small cities.
The film is being rated 6 out of 10 by Bollywood products, however, based on the rating given by around 23 people on IMDB, the film is rated an average of 6.7.
