Sehar [meaning - Morning] is an Indian Hindi-language Crime-Drama film released on July 29, 2005. The film narrates the story of a newly appointed SSP in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, who gets frustrated when he witnesses organized crimes and the way state police handle the crimes and criminals.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) issued a UA rating to the Hindi-language film Sehar, vide certificate No. CIL/3/72/2005-MUM dated July 11, 2005.
Arshad Warsi, Mahima Chaudhry, Sushant Singh, and Pankaj Kapur play pivotal roles in Sehar. The film also features Suhasini Mulay, Rajendra Gupta, Naved Aslam, Surendra Pal, Ravi Jhankal, and many others.
The tentative budget of Sehar is Rs. 4 Crore. The film did exceptionally well commercially and earned approximately Rs. 20 Crore at the Worldwide Box Office.
Tarkeshwari Singh (Madan Joshi) is a railway contractor in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He has supremacy in the field and grabs railway contracts in Bihar.
Gajraj Singh (Sushant Singh) is a criminal-minded man who wants the railway contracts in Bihar. He meets Tarkeshwari and asks him to work in Lucknow only. When Tarkeshwari refuses, Gajraj shoots him to die.
Ajay Kumar (Arshad Warsi) transferred and posted in Lucknow as the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). He is an honest and upright officer who lives with his mother, Prabha Kumar (Suhasini Mulay). Ajay
The father of Ajay killed himself when accused of being a deserter, leaving his widow Prabha, who nurtured and brought up Ajay to a police officer. The death of his father often traumatizes Ajay.
Ajay soon meets his childhood friend Anamika (Mahima Chaudhry) and falls in love with her. Prabha decides to get them married.
Soon, Ajay discovers organized crimes by Gajraj (Sushant Singh), who has now raised himself as the supreme mafia power.
Ajay makes many failed attempts to grab Gajraj, but the political and police connection saves him. Understanding the police support for Gajraj Singh from the nearby states, Ajay proposes to make a Special Task Force (STF) that can work in the entire jurisdiction of Lucknow without any hindrance.
ADG (Law and Order), Arun Kapoor (Rajendra Gupta) support Ajay and seek permission from the Principal Secretary (Ahmed Khan), who turns down the proposal. However, when Gajraj kills a big business tycoon, the Chief Minister (Vishnu Sharma) allows him to form a task force.
In the meantime, cell phones are introduced, and Gajraj starts using the new technology. The STP finds it hard to understand the technology and its technical terms. To understand the newly introduced technology in simple language, Ajay seeks the help of Professor Bhole Shankar Tiwari (Pankaj Kapur).
Now, STF can monitor Gajraj's cell phones with the help of Prof. Tiwari. With the help of cell phone tracking systems, the team tracks down many illegal deals of Gajraj. However, Gajraj soon becomes vigilant of the tracking system.
Gajraj is helpless because the Chief Minister supports the STF. To suppress the problem, Gajraj decides to enter politics and form his government.
On the other hand, STF learns about the plan of Gajraj. And if he becomes a part of the political system, it will not be easy to grab him.
Ajay knows the STF will become powerless once Gajraj wins the election. He has to stop Gajraj from becoming a political leader.
