Tahqiqaat (meaning: Investigation) is a Hindi (Bollywood) Thriller film released on 3rd December 1993. Tahqiqaat is a remake of the Malayalam film Post Mortem (1982).

Movie Plot

Brief Character description

Father Fernandes (Jeetendra) is a Priest in a Catholic Church. Peter (Aditya Pancholi) lives in the town with his mother (Sulbha Arya), father (Satyen Kapoor), and younger sister, Mary (Farheen).

Bhanu Pratap (Danny Denzongpa) is a wealthy and affluent person in the town. Ramesh (Ronit Roy) is the son of Bhanu Pratap, and Vikram (Mahesh Anand) is the trustworthy employee-cum-goon of Bhanu Pratap.

Roopa (Sangeeta Bijlani) and her mother (Asha Sharma) live in the same town. Roopa's deceased father used to work for Bhanu Pratap.

Film Story

Peter (Adtiya Pancholi) is an angry young man. He can not see injustice to anyone and starts fighting against the wrongdoers. Roopa (Sangeeta Bijlani) and Peter love each other. Peter's father is a carpenter and makes Coffins.

Mary (Farheen) and Ramesh (Ronit Roy) love each other secretly. Mary requests Father Fernandes (Jeetendra) to talk to his brother because Peter is an obedient follower of Father Fernandes. While Mary is with Father Fernandes, Peter sees them and becomes suspicious.

When Ramesh informs his father about Mary, Bhanu Pratap vehemently denies the collaboration. However, when he sees his son sad for a few days, he agrees to marry Ramesh and Mary. But before the marriage, Ramesh has to go to Hongkong for a business trip.

Ramesh informs Mary that his father is ready for their marriage and he will get married once he returns from Hongkong. Ramesh goes to Hongkong, and in the meantime, Mary becomes pregnant.

Mary tells everything to Father Fernandes. However, Roopa (Sangeeta Bijlani) overhears the conversation and thinks that the unborn child of Mary belongs to Father Fernandes. Roopa informs everything to Peter, who gets enraged and beats Father Fernandes.

The biggest twist

The next day Mary commits suicide, and Peter wishes to kill Father Fernandes. On the other hand, Father Fernandes meets Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar (Jeentendra in a Double Role), his twin brother.

Father Fernandes thinks that Mary has not committed suicide. Moreover, the burial of Mary without the postmortem deepens his suspicions. Arun Kumar assures his brother that he will dig out the body and make a postmortem.

The next day Arun Kumar visits the town with his police team and digs out the Coffin of Mary. However, a big surprise is waiting in the Coffin. Mary is not in the Coffin, but Father Gonsalves is dead lying in that Coffin.

The rest of the story of Tahqiqaat revolves around the investigation by Arun Kumar.
