A 28,000-in number power drove by Peshwa Baji Rao II while on their approach to assault the Company held Pune, were out of the blue met by an 800-in number Company power that was en route to building up the British soldiers in Pune.
The Peshwa dispatched around 2,000 fighters to assault the power which looked for entrenchment in Koregaon. Driven by Captain Francis Staunton, the Company troops guarded their situation for almost 12 hours, before the Peshwa's soldiers at last pulled out, dreading the inescapable appearance of a bigger British power.
