Movie Plot
The film Ulagammai narrates the story of Nellari District Village set in 1970'.
A grown-up woman, Ulagammai, belongs to an economically weaker family. She works in the farmland of Marimuthu.
Saroja is the marriageable daughter of Marimuth, who sends a marriage proposal to an educated man, Loganathan alias Logu. When Logu comes to see Saroja, Ulagammai also accompanies her.
Logu thinks Ulagammai, who accompanies Saroja, is the bride and falls in love with Ulagammai at first sight. Logu refuses the marriage proposal of Saroja even after Ulagammai reveals the truth.
It enrages Marimuth, who is an influential person in the village. He starts torturing Ulagammai with the help of the village people. Even when Mayandi, the father of Ulagammai, dies, no one comes to help Ulagammai.
Ulagammai seeks some lower caste people for the last rituals of her father. They help her to complete the post-death rites. Ulagammai decides to stay with them forever because they help her in her need.
