Lakshya is the son of a martyred army officer but does not appreciate his father's sacrifice for the nation. Lakshya lives n a university campus in Sikkim. He has four buddies in college, namely Saloni (Rakul Preet Singh), Pardy (Shreyas Porus Pardiwalla), Neil (Dev Sharma), and Jiya (Nicole Faria).
These five friends are exploring the best moments in college and experiencing different relationships without having any aim in their life.
Lakshya and Jenny are in a relationship and want to spend quality time with Jenny. When Jenny tries to kiss in the library, Pardy interrupts the couple. Later, when the couple again tries to use some personal time, Jiya gets stripped from her saree in front of the audience. Jenny breaks her relationship with Lakshya.
Things take a U-Turn when an Australian entrepreneur becomes the new owner of the college campus and plans to run a casino instead of the college. The businessman, however, is ready to lease the land to the college if the college team defeats a team of Australian students in a five-round competition. The principal chooses the five students to take part in the challenge.
Lakshya and the team visit Australia for the first three rounds of five round competition. He meets his best friend and cousin, Debu (Jatin Suri).
During the first round of the competition, the Australian band steals Lakshya and his band's song and wins the first round. When Debut protests, the Australian team beats Debut brutally and is taken to the hospital.
While Debut is in the Hospital, Saloni wins the 2nd round (a chess competition). However, Debut dies in the hospital, which disturbs the college team, and they lose the 3rd round, giving Australia a 2–1 lead.
The rest of the two rounds of competition are now to be held in India. Will the college team win the rest of the two rounds? If yes, how? Yaariyaan gives replies to all such queries with a twist.
