Zanjeer (1973) [Hindi Movie]

Zanjeer (1973) is a Bollywood Action Movie released on 11 May, 1973 (India). The movie was produced and directed by Prakash Mehra. Story for the movie was written by famous writer duo Salim-Javed who later wrote many blockbusters for Amitabh Bachchan like Majboor (1974), Deewar (1975), Sholey (1975), Trishul (1978), Don (1978), Kaala Patthar (1979), Shaan (1980), Dostana (1980). Zanjeer (1973) was nominated under 9 categories in Filmfare Awards and grabbed four including Best Story and Best Screenplay by Salim-Javed, Best Lyricist and Best Editing. 

Before Znjeer an era of Romantic movies, lead by Rajesh Khanna, was going on.  Zanjeer was the trend setter what changed Hindi Cinema’s movement from Romantic to Action and also established Amitabh Bhachchan as The Angry Young Man.  

Zanjeer (1973) proved a Superhit on Box Office by earning Rs. 6 Crores and also became the 4th Highest Grossing Bollywood Movie of the year 1973 after Bobby, Daag and Jugnu followed by Yaadon Ki Baaraat. 

Zanjeer (1973) stars Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri, Pran and Ajit in lead roles. Whereas, Om Prakash, Bindu, Iftekhar, Keshto Mukherjee, Satyendra Kapoor, Yunus Parvez, Krishan Dhawan, Sapru, Ram Mohan and Goga Kapoor played supporting roles in the movie. Amitabh Bachchan and Pran were nominated for Filmfare Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Award. 

Kalyanji-Anandji were nominated for Filmare Best Music Director for mesmerizing songs like Dil Jalon Ka, Deewane Hain Deewano Ko, Bana Ke Kyon Bigaada Re and Yaari Hai Imaan Mera for which Gulshan Bawra Won Filmfare Best Lyricist Award and Manna Dey got Filmfare Nomination for Best Male Playback Singer.  

Zanjeer (1973) Movie Plot

Young Vijay Khann (Amitabh Bachchan) witnesses murdering of his parents by an unidentified person with white horse on his bracelet (Zanjeer). Vijay grows with the image of murderer in his mind and becomes an honest police officer. His first collision is made with local goon Sher Khan (Pran) who impresses with the Honesty and Bravery of Vijay and becomes his friends leaving all his illegal activities. 

Vijay gets regular telephonically information, by an unidentified person, about upcoming crimes done by a white caller criminal Teja (Ajit Singh). A girl Mala (Jaya Bhaduri) when witnesses a crime she is bribed to keep quite. But she is questioned by Vijay and eventually she tells the truth. This enrages Teja and his men are after Mala. Vijay is also framed falsely for taking bribe and sent to jail. Now Sher Khan vows to help Mala and to help Vijay to find the real culprit after his releasing from jail.
