The story takes place in a quiet village in the eastern part of India. The village prepares for Charak Mela, a festival devoted to Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali. People from faraway places arrive with deep faith. Many believe that even the sacrifice of a child can fulfil the most impossible wishes. The festival becomes a space where faith and fear, devotion and danger, stand side by side.
Charak Mela is filled with intense rituals. Men fall into a trance and let iron hooks pierce their skin. Devotees walk on fire. Aghoris carry human skulls. Groups dance around symbolic sacrifices. The atmosphere grows heavy and frightening.
In the middle of this chaos, two schoolboys, Birsa and Kanu, go missing. Days later, Kanu’s body is found in a pond. Birsa is still missing. The villagers panic, and the families fall apart in grief.
Sukumar, an autorickshaw driver, becomes the centre of the story. He and his wife, Bimla, cannot have a child. They love Birsa as their own because Birsa is the son of Sukumar’s troubled friend, Bikash and the loyal Sabitri. But Sukumar’s faith slowly turns into a dangerous desire. He begins to believe that a sacrifice could bring him the life he always dreamed of. His love for Birsa and his growing hunger for a miracle push him toward an unthinkable choice.
Around them, many stories move quietly. Birsa and Kanu share a tender friendship. The local politician, Shantiram, watches every event for his own gain. Police officer Subhash and his wife Shefali try to keep the village steady. Sukumar forms silent partnerships with people like Jagan, another driver, and Bhima, an aghori who is willing to assist in dark rituals.
As the festival reaches its peak, the line between faith and cruelty disappears. The question remains whether the village will see the truth before another innocent life is lost.
