The Face Behind the Mask is a 1941 English Horror and Thriller film released in cinemas on 16 January 1941. .
Janos Szaby (Peter Lorre) comes to America from Hungary and works as a kind and talented craftsman. A terrible fire burns his face and leaves him badly scarred. Because people fear his looks, no one gives him a job.
In this helpless state, he meets a small-time criminal (George E. Stone), who pulls him into the crime world. Janos learns fast and soon becomes more powerful and feared than his own teacher, earning money so he can buy a mask to hide his face.
Things change when he falls in love with Helen, a blind girl (Evelyn Keyes). Love makes him want to leave crime and start a clean life. But fate turns cruel when a bomb meant for him kills Helen instead. After that, Janos loses hope and goes on a dangerous path of revenge that slowly destroys him.
