Plot Summary of Hindi Film Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022)

Gangubai Kathiawadi is a Biographical Crime Drama Hindi Bollywood Movie. The film released on 25 February 2022 in theaters. The movie is produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada under their respective banners Bansali Productions and Pen India Limited. Sanjay Leela Bansali has directed the film whereas the screenplay is written by Utkarshini Vashishtha.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on a chapter of Hussain Ziadi’s Book Mafia Queens of Mumbai about Gangubai Kothewali who used to run a brothel in Kamathipura.

Gangubai Kathiawadi stars Alia Bhatt who portrays Gangubai Kothewali in the movie.  Vijay Raaz, Seema Bhargava, Shantanu Maheshwari, Baldev Trehan, Tareeq Ahmed Khan, and M.K. Raina play supporting roles in the movie. Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi have played cameo roles in the film. Huma Qureshi has made an Item number in the film.

Music and Songs

The writer and director Sanjay Leela Bansali himself composed music for the movie whereas Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara composed the background scores for the movie. However, no song has been released yet.

Movie Plot

Gangubai Kathiawadi depicts the story of Gangubai (Alia Bhatt) who absconded from his advoctate father and lands into Mumbai. Now she runs a brothel in Kamathipura and becomes a powerful woman in the ’60s.

She keeps connections with the underworld and there known as ‘Madam of Kamathpura’.

Sanjay Leela Bansali is hitting again as a director after two years. His last directorial Padmaavat starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Shahid Kapoor was released in the year 2018. Padmaavat became the second-highest grosser Bollywood Film of 2018 after Sanju by earning approximately 585 Crores against a budget under 200 Crores.

Bhansali is famous for his experimental cinema like Khamoshi: The Musicial, Black, Saawariya, Guzaarish and Bajirao Mastani. Most of his directorial movies became commercially successful on box office. This time he came up with a Biography of a Lady Don.

Gangubai Kathiawadi revolves around Gangubai played by Alia Bhatt who has shown her acting feathers in many films. In her recent film Sadak-2 she looks doing acting with half hearted. She is a very talent girl as far acting is concerned but people are against her being alleged part of nepotism in the Bollywood. Let us see how Gangubai reacts in the public.

Acting

Alia Bhatt being a star kid gets an easy entry in Bollywood. However, she has proved her acting talent right from her debut in Student of the year (2012). Thereafter, we have seen her improving herself with every new movie. Dear Zindagi (2016), Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), Raazi (2019), Gully Boy (2019) and Kalank (2019) prove her talent without any doubt. Alia has done a very good job in Gangubai Kathiawadi.

After Baadsaho (2017), Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi are coming up together. Earlier they alliance in Once Upon a Time in the year 2010 and the film became one of the Top 10 Highest Grossing Bollywood Films of 2010. However, Ajay Devgn is in special appearance in Gangubai Kathiawadi has has nothing to do much in the film.

Actors like Vijay Raaz and Pahwa are excellent.
