Plot Summary of Hindi Film Housefull (2010)

Housefull is an Indian Hindi-language (Bollywood) Comedy Drama film released in cinemas on April 30, 2010.

Actor-turned-director Sajid Khan is the director, and Sajid Nadiadwala is the producer of Housefull, which became the first installment of the successful Housefull franchise.

The film has an ensemble cast. The film marked the last screen appearance of Jiah Khan, who died three years after its release on June 3, 2013.

Askshay Kumar, Reteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta, Boman Irani, and Arjun Rampal play pivotal roles in  Housefull. The film also features Malaika Arora, Randhir Kapoor, Chunky Pandey, Jiah Khan, Lillete Dubey, Vindu Dara Singh, Manoj Pahwa, Suresh Menon, Daisy Irani, and many others.

 Jacqueline Fernandez makes a special appearance in the song Dhanno.

Budget and Box Office Collection

The tentative budget of Houseful was Rs. 47 Crore. The film was released worldwide over 750 screens and did good commercial business. Housefull earned approximately Rs. 116 Crore at the Worldwide Box Office.

Housefull became the fifth Highest Grossing Bollywood Movie of 2010 after Dabangg, Golmaal 3, Raajneeti, and My Name is Khan.

Movie Plot

Aarush (Akshay Kumar) is a jinx who remains depressed due to being an unlucky person. He lives in Macao and works for a casino. The casino owner uses Aarush to spread bad luck among the winners in the casino.

A profoundly wise person has told him that to terminate the bad omen from his life, Aarush has to marry the girl he loves.

Aarush loves Pooja (Malaika Arora) and finally proposes to her intending to wipe out his jinx quality. However, Pooja softly refuses to marry him because she already knows that Aarush is synonymous with a bad omen. Moreover, Pooja's military man brother Major Krishna Rao (Arjun Rampal), has already seen a suitable man for Pooja.

Disheartened, Aarush realizes that Bob (Riteish Deshmukh) is the only person who does not consider him a jinx and decides to go to him.

Aarush meets Bob

Bob (Riteish Deshmukh) is the best friend of Aarush, who lives in London with his wife, Hetal Patel (Lara Dutta). They work in the casino of an Indian billionaire Kishore Samtani (Randhir Kapoor).

Hetal married Bob against the wish of her father, Batuk Patel (Boman Irani), and the angry father is now estranged from Hetal and does not respond even to the phone calls of Hetal.

Aarush reaches London, meets Bob, and tells him to stay there for two-three weeks. Initially, Hetal becomes unhappy with Aarush, but later she realizes he is a kind-hearted man. Consequently, Hetail accepts Aarush as one of his family members.

Kishore Samtani (Randhir Kapoor) wants an Indian man for her daughter Devika (Jiah Khan). Bob and Hetal plan to Aarush get married to Devika. They introduce Ayush to Kishore Samtani, who agrees to marry his daughter to Aarush.

A twist in the story

Devika and Aarush get married and go to Italy for their honeymoon, and stay in the hotel of an Indian, Aakhri Pasta (Chunky Pandey), who has a habit of joking without any reason.

On the first day of their visit to Italy, Aarush learns that Devika has cheated on him and she loves her longtime American boyfriend, Benny. She explains that she wants her father's money, which she gets only after marrying an Indian girl as per her father's Will.

Aarush gets depressed by the sinister prophecy in his life and tries to commit suicide by diving into the sea. A pretty young girl Sandy (Deepika Padukone), saves the life of Ayush.

While Sandy tries to make Aarush breathe by giving him CPR, Aarush suddenly gets back consciousness and kisses her. When Sandy complains to Aakhiri Pasta, the hotel owner, he jokes that the wife of Aarush died on the day of his honeymoon.

Sanday becomes sympathetic and befriends Aarush and soon falls for him. Aarush invites Bob and Hetal to Italy to celebrate the moments.

While Sandy, Aarush, Bob, and Hetal are enjoying their meal in the hotel, Devika unexpectedly comes with her boyfriend Benny, and an awkward situation arises. Since Aarush never lies, he confesses that Devika is his wife and they are getting divorced soon.

Hilarious moments

Sandy becomes upset with Aarush and gets into her hotel room. When she does not allow Aarush to enter the room, he tries to enter Sandy's room from the window by hanging through the balcony grills.

Aakhri Pasta assumes that Aarush is committing suicide and calls tv reporters for publicity. Live news run on the television, and Sandy comes out of the room after watching the news on television.

Aarush explains everything, and Sandy accepts him. However, Aarush does not know that Sandy is the sister of Major Krishna Rao (Arjun Rampal) and his ex-lover Pooja (Malaika Arora).

A mirthful twist in the story

Hetal often calls her father, who remains on the other side but does not respond to her daughter's voice. Hetal keeps on telling lies to her father to melt him. She tells her father that Bob owns a big house in London and has a baby too.

Batuk Patel gets melted after learning about his grandson. He talks to Hetal over the phone and tells her to reach London after five days (on the 17th of the month). Hetal is overjoyed and tensed at the same time because she lied to her father that she lives in a big mansion in London and has a baby.

On the other hand, Sandy calls her brother Krishna Rao (Arjun Rampal) and tells him about Aarush. She also tells her brother that Aarush is quite well to do too. Krishna Rao plans to visit London on the 14th of the month, three days the plan.

Sandy and Aarush get tensed because Aarush has neither a job nor a house to live in. Thus, there is a high chance that Krishna Rao will not accept their collaboration.

Idiotic scheme to bamboozle parents

Hetal plans to rent a big mansion house in London for a few days, intending to deceive Krishna Rao (Arjun Rampal) and then her father.

Bob accompanies Sandy to receive Major Krishna Rao, whereas Aarush escorts Hetal to meet Zulekha (Lillete Dubey), the owner of the big mansion in London. Zulekha tells them that they can get the house if they are married.

Since Hetal wants the house at any cost, she confirms that Aarush is her husband and procures the mansion on rent. Aarush tells her to tell the truth, but she remains adamant, thinking nothing will go wrong.

Identity diffusion

The plan goes awry when Hetal finds her father in the mansion three days before the expected arrival. On the other hand, Krishna Rao messages Sandy and informs his inability to come to London.

The circumstances compel Hetal to present Aarush as her husband before her father. She also tells Bob to arrange a baby immediately.

Sandy and Bob manage to bring a baby. Sandy pretends to be the nanny, whereas Bob becomes the cook in the house.

The situation gets more complicated when Major Krishna Rao arrives in London soon. Aarush recognizes Major Krishna as the brother of Pooja, the sister of Sandy.

Lie detector test

The arrival of Major Krishna Rao becomes a threat to the four (Aarush, Sandy, Hetal, and Bob) because, for Batuk Patel, the mansion belongs to Bob, and Krishna Rao believes it belongs to Aarush.

Krishna Rao soon gets some doubts and takes a lie detector test of Aarush. If Aarush lies, the machine will detect it, and in case of telling the truth, he will lose Sandy.

What will Aarush do now? What will the four do? Will they get exposed, or they plan something big? The film Housefull gives replies to such queries and takes the audience on a hilarious journey of innocent lies and unexpected consequences.
