The Hindi-language film "Accident Or Conspiracy-Godhara" received its CBFC certificate (No. DIL/3/39/2024-MUM) on 07 June 2024, with an initial runtime of 156 Minutes and 31 Seconds , accompanied by a A (Adult Only) rating. In a notable update, a revised certificate was issued on 25 June 2024, reflecting a slight reduction in runtime to 133 Minutes and 45 Seconds and a change in rating to A (Adult Only) .
The film takes inspiration from a real-life incident, "Ghodhara Kand," that happened on 27 February 2022. The Gujarat riots occurred shortly afterward in Gujarat, where Muslims were the targets of widespread and severe violence.
On 27 February 2002, 90 passengers were killed on Sabarmti Express near Godhara railway station when a Muslim community set fire to a train full of Kar Sevaks. Most of the victims were from the Hindu community.
In September 2008, the Nanavati-Mehta Commission submitted the part of its report covering the Godhra train burning incident (Part I) in which it had concluded that the burning of the S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express near Godhra railway station was a planned conspiracy. The cause of the fire remains disputed.
