Ghasitaram (Jankidas), feeling pressured by his wife (Lalita Kumari), decides to give a barren piece of land to his orphaned nephew, Dhanna (Dara Singh). Dhanna lives with his wife, Bhagwanti, and his sister, Laali (Yogeeta Bali).
Dhanna works hard to farm the land but fails. In desperation, he decides to seek help from Lord Vishnu. He approaches Pandit Tirlochan (V. Gopal), who tricks him by giving him a plain rock. Believing it to be divine, Dhanna brings the rock home and vows not to eat until Lord Vishnu shares his meal.
This behaviour makes everyone, including Bhagwanti and Laali, think Dhanna has gone crazy. But Dhanna remains certain that Lord Vishnu will come to his aid.
