While dining at a restaurant, Geeta (Simi Garewal) sees a young (Bhisham Kohli) outside the restaurant. Geeta recognizes him as Anil. She tries to stop him, but the man drives away in his car. Geeta takes a taxi and follows the man.
By following Anil, Geeta enters his house and hugs him. The man baffles and says that he is Ravi Kapoor and not Anil.
Geeta says that he is Anil, her husband. She shows some photographs of her with Anil. The man again confronts that he is Ravi Kapoor and shows his identity. However, Geeta does believe it and soon shifts into the house of Ravi Kapoor.
Geeta starts behaving like the wife that Ravi cannot tolerate because he is in love with Asha (Nazneen). Ravi ignores him and tries to call the police, but Geeta requests him not to call the police.
In the meantime, Asha comes to know about Geeta and believes what she says. Ravi tries to explain things, but Geeta does not believe him.
Fed up with the repeated rejections, Geeta makes a suicide attempt, and her condition becomes critical. The investigation officer (Jagdish Raj) finds it hard to believe Ravi. However, he gives him bail on the personal bond of Asha coming to the police station.
Ravi seeks the help of a Psychologist (Dr. Sriram Lagoo) to find the truth. What is the truth? Who was Anil? Who is a liar, Geeta or Ravi? What happens to the relationship between Ravi and Asha? Chalte Chalte replies these quieries.
