Gaddaar - Hindi Film 1973

Gaddaar [meaning: The Traitor] is a Hindi-language (Bollywood) Crime Thriller film released in cinemas on 15 August 1973. The Central Board of Film Certification issued a U Rating, vide certificate No. 72470, on 3 May 1973. The running time of the film is 137 Minutes.

There is another movie Gaddaar released on 9 June 1995. Sunil Shetty, Sonali Bendre, and Harish played lead roles in Gaddaar (1995).

Harmesh Malhotra is the Producer and Direct of Gaddaar. It is the first film of Harmesh Malhotra as a Producer and the second film as a Film Director after Beti (1969).

Movie Plot

A royal man (Ajit) gives Rs. 40 Lakh to his Munim (Jankidas) to keep it safe for 24 hours. A robber B.K. (Pran), receives the information about the money. He immediately informs his partners in crime, Professor (Iftikhar), Kanhaiya (Madan Puri), Sampat (Anwar Hussain), Mohan (Manmohan), John (Rammohan Sharma), and Babu (Ranjeet).

They successfully loot Rs. 40 lakh. The police arrive, and B.K. receives a bullet shot and succumbs to injuries. However, they manage to flee safely with money in a different direction.

The next day they all meet but get shocked when they discover that Kanhaiya (Madan Puri) has absconded with the money. They learn about a dancer (Padma Khanna) who may know the whereabouts of Kanhaiya.

In the meantime, Raja (Vinod Khanna) enters their life and wants a share in the looted money. In return, he promises to find Kanhaiya. The Cabret dancer informs that Kanhaiya has gone to Madras. Raja kills the dancer, and they all start a hunt to search for Kanhaiya.

Twist in the story

In the end, they all reach Rampur, Shimla. While searching for Kanhaiya, Raja has to take shelter in a hotel due to heavy snowfall. He meets Reshma (Yogeeta Bali), the pretty young owner of the hotel.

Dr. Mathur (Satyen Kappu) and his wife (Varsha) have also struck in the snowfall and staying in the same hotel. All of a sudden, Raja sees Kanhaiya enters the hotel. He is the owner of the hotel and the father of Reshma.

Who is the traitor

Raja informs other gang members about Kanhaiya. They visit the hotel and hostages Dr. Mathur, his wife, Resma, and a waiter-cum-servant of the hotel.

Kanhaiya informs that the money is safe in a cave near the hotel. B.K. and Professor go with Kanhaiya to bring the money. However, everyone wants to grab Rs. 40 lakh alone and seems to be a traitor (Gaddar). What happens is the rest of the story of Gaddaar (1973).
