Hum Kaun Hai is a Hindi (Bollywood) Horror Mystery Thriller film released on 3 September 2004. Amitabh Bachchan and Dimple Kapadia play the lead roles, whereas Dharmendra, Prem Chopra, and Sushma Seth make guest appearances.
Sandra (Dimple Kapadia) lives in a palatial with his two children Sara (baby Hansika Motwani) and David (Master Aman). Frank John Williams,s her husband, works in Army and cannot return home due to war.
Sandra can not hear loud sounds. She has instructed her servants not to touch the piano. There is no telephone or television to lessen the chances of loud sounds. Moreover, both of her children have a unique kind of allergy to sunlight. Hence, she keeps covering all the windows with curtains and has disconnected the electricity too.
One day all of her servants (three) go missing. She writes a letter to the newspaper agency for publication of an advertisement for the employment of new servants. The next day Mrs. Martha Pinto (Moushumi Chatterjee), Edgar (Abhijeet Lahiri), and Maria (Seema Rahmani), a dumb girl, visit the house for domestic help.
Sandra hires them and explains that sunlight may damage children's eyes. Hence the curtains are to be drawn at all times. Moreover, everyone must remain quiet as she gets migraines from any loud noise.
Soon Sara (Baby Hansika Motwani) witnesses a mysterious boy, Vicky (Master Vicky), with his father, mother, and an older woman. Sandra does not believe Sara even after Sara draws a painting of the four persons. However, soon Sandara realizes supernatural powers in the house.
Sandra wants to call the nearby priest from the church to consecrate the house, but she witnesses her husband, Frank (Amitabh Bachchan), returns home. However, Frank is a completely changed personality and does not want to spend time with Sandra.
After a few days, Frank goes outside and meets his friend-cum-collegue Veeru (Dharmendra), and tells him about Sandra and her children Sara and David. However, Frank is not her husband of Sandra, and is still unmarried.
Who is Frank (Amitabh Bachchan), and why Sandra treats him like her husband? Who are the four invisible people roaming in the home and only visible to Sara? Is the house haunted, or any hidden story is behind all these supernatural events? The film Hum Kaun Hain gives replies to all such queries.
