Vijay (Dharmendra) is a timid widower. He lives in a small rural area with his mother (Urmila Bhatt), unmarried sister, Radha (Rati Agnihotri), and son.
Radha loves Raj (Mithun Chakraborty), who is a police officer, and soon their marriage is fixed. Vijay takes a loan of 5000 from Lala Dayaluram (Saeed Jaffrey) by mortgaging his agricultural land. However, Lala has a foul plan to play with Vijay to grab the mortgaged land. Lala hires Bhagad Singh (Shakti Kapoor), a dreaded Dacoit, to kill Vijay.
On the other hand, a hardcore criminal, Karan (Dharmendra in a double role), is on the run from Inspector Raj (Mithun Chakraborty).
Parallely, the Bhagad Singh gang beats Vijay and asks him to leave the village. When Vijay refuses, the dacoit gang ties him to a horse, drags him away, and leaves him at a deserted place.
Karan (Dharemdra in a double role) finds unconscious Vijay (Dharmendra). Karan kills Vijay and throws him to his death from atop a cliff. Karan now pretends to be Vijay. Raj (Mithun Chakraborty) also treats Karan as Vijay and takes Vijay alias Karan with him.
Karan starts living in Vijay's house under the name of Vijay. A lot more happens in the village and with Karan. What happens next is the rest of the story of Karishma Kudrat Kaa.
