Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki is a Hindi (Bollywood) Family Drama film released on 4 August 1978. The film is based on a Marathi novel titled Ashi Tujhi Preet by Chandrakant Kakodkar.
Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki was a commercial hit. The film became the Fifth Highest Grossing Hindi Movie of 1978.
Raj Khosla is the Producer and Director of Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki. Chandrakant Kakodkar is the original Story Writer (Novel), Rahi Masoom Reza is the Dialogue Writer. Whereas Raj Bharti, G.R. Kamath, and Suraj Sanim are the Screenplay Writers of Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki.
Nutan, Vinod Khanna, and Deb Mukherjee play lead roles in Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki. The film also features Asha Parekh, Vijay Anand, Neeta Mehta, Jagdish Raj, C.S. Dubey, Geeta Behll, Asin Sen, Trilok Kapoor, Heena Kausar, Goga Kapoor, Bhagwan Dada, Praveen Paul, Purnima Das Verma, Kumari Naaz, Master Ravi, Master Gautam, Amrit Lakhanpal, Nawab, Anand Pal, Inder Khosla, A.K. Agnihotri, and Birbal.
Thakur Rajnath Singh Chouhan (Vijay Anand) belongs to a royal family. However, he is in love with a courtesan Tulsi (Asha Parekh). Since Thakur can not marry due to social stigma, Tulsi lives with him as his mistress and soon gives birth to a baby boy Ajay.
In the meantime, Rajnath's mother (Purnima) pressurizes him to marry Sanyukta (Nutan), a strong aristocratic woman. Tulsi convinces Rajnath to marry Sanyukta, and they get married soon.
After marriage, Rajnath keeps his distance from Sanyukta, and their marriage is not a consummation. Sanyukta blames Tulsi for the same and asks her to leave the house. Tulsi refuses to leave the house but promises not to be a hurdle in Sanyukta's marital life. The next day Tulsi commits suicide to give legitimate rights to Sanyukta (Nutan).
The entire family socks to the incident. Sanyukta holds herself responsible for the suicide of Tulsi and decides to take care of her son Ajay, like her real son, and admit him to a boarding school. Later Sanyukta gives birth to a baby boy Pratap.
Rajnath dies soon, leaving Sanyukta to take care of Ajay and Pratap. She visits the boarding school regularly to meet Ajay and takes good care of him.
Grown-up Pratap (Deb Mukherjee) is taking care of the Estates and Business of his father and believes him, the only legal heir of his father. Grown-up Ajay (Vinod Khanna) returns home after completing his studies, and Sanyukta starts treating him like her elder son. However, Pratap does not like Ajay and never treats him like a brother.
Pratap feels slighted and becomes wayward. He often tries to give a malign effect on the good public image of Ajay in front of his mother. Some people around them also try to damage the relations between the two brothers. However, Ajay Prtoest him in front of his mother and takes the blame on him for every transgress by Pratap.
Ajay meets Nanini (Neeta Mehta) and falls in love after initial small fights. On the other hand, Pratap seduces Geeta (Geeta Behl), gets her pregnant, and holds Ajay responsible for it. Pratap also manipulates Geeta's father to state against Ajay.
Sanyukta, who always supports Ajay, shields him, gets betrayed by her real son Pratap. She blames Ajay for the rape and asks him to leave with a heavy heart because she can not reveal his true identity due to social shame.
Nevertheless, some people plan to kill Pratap in Polo Ground during a Polo match. What happens next is the rest of the story of Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki.
The tentative budget of the film was 1.40 Crore INR. The film did well commercially and earned approximately 2.75 Crore at the Indian Box Office and 5.50 Crore at the Worldwide Box Office. It was the 5th Highest Grossing Bollywood Movie of 1978.
Film Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki received Nine (9) Filmfare Nominations at the 26th Filmfare Awards 1979.
* By receiving Nine (9) nominations, Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar became the Most Nominated Films in the 26th Filmfare Awards 1979. However, surprisingly, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (Highest Grossing Hindi Film of 1978) could not win even a single award.
* The film won The Best Film, Best Actress, and Best Dialogues Filmfare Awards.
* Nutan won the Best Actress Filmfare Award. It was Nutan's fifth and last Filmfare Award.
* Anand Bakshi receives a Filmfare Nomination for Best Lyricist for the song Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki (Title Song). However, he won the Best Lyricist Filmfare Award for the song Aadmi Musafir Hai from Apnapan.
