Malti (Nirupra Roy) secretly married Ram Lal, a widower and had a newborn named Ratan. Malti also gave birth to a child named Amar. She visited Ram Lal's House and asked him to adopt Amar. But Ram Lal refused to accept Amar.
Malti replaces the newly born Amar with Ratan. Ram Lal tried to recover his son but was bitten by a Snake and died immediately. Ratan was taken care of by Captain Suresh (Kanu Roy) a friend of Ram Lal. Malti also managed to get a servant's job at Captain Suresh' House.
Malti devotes all his time to her real son Ratan ignoring Amar. Later on, grown Amar (Dev Anand), became Munim Ji (Accountant) with Captain Suresh. However, he disguised himself as a handsome male to a typical accountant. This fact is also in the knowledge of Malti.
Roopa (Nalini Jaywant) daughter of Captain Suresh returns from England after completing her studies and her engagement was made with Ratan. However, he falls in love with Raaj (Amar) who is Munim Ji in his real looks. Malti comes to know about the affair of Raaj and Ratan and he takes promise from Amar to stay away from Roopa.
In the meantime, Kala Ghoda, a Notorious Dacoit, demands Rs. 50,000 from Captain Suresh as extortion money. Police lay a trap and capture Kala Ghoda. Everyone is surprised to see Kala Ghoda.
