Plot Summary of Hindi Film Ram Aur Shyam (1967)

Ram Aur Shyam (1967) is a Musical Comedy Movie released on 7 April, 1967 (India). The movie was produced by Chakrapani and B. Nagi Reddi. Ram Aur Shaym was based on Telugu Movie Ramudu Beemudu (1964) directed by Tapi Chanakya who also directed Ram Aur Shaym. The movie became a Box Office Blockbuster by earning Rs. 5.5 Crores approximately (Worldwide) and also became the Second Highest Grossing Bollywood Movie of 1967 after Upkar and followed by Farz, Hamraaz and Shagird. Dilip Kumar won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for his talent in double role. 

Ram Aur Shyam paved the way for double role movies and inspired many double role movies too including Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), Chaalbaaz (1989), Kishen Kanhaiya (1990) and Gopi Kishan (1994).

Legendary Music Director Naushad composed some very good songs for Ram Aur Shyam (1967) including Baalam Tere Pyar Ki Thandi sung by Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhosle, Aaj Ki Raat Mere sung by Mohammed Rafi, Aayee Hai Bahaaren Mite Zulmon Sitam sung by sung by Mohammed Rafi and Main Hoon Saaki sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi. Lyrics for all the songs were penned by Shakeel Badayuni.

Ram Aur Shyam (1967) Movie Plot: Ram (Dilip Kumar) is a wealthy person yet very timid and fearful and that is why the overall control of his property and estates is being looked after by Gajendra (Pran) who is husband of his sister Sulakshana (Nirupa Roy) with the help of his Mother (Kamini Kaushal) and cunning Munim (Kanhaiya Lal). Sulakshana has a son Kuku who loves his maternal uncle very much but is helpless just like his mother. Gajendra wants Ram to marry with Anjana (Waheed Rehman), a very rich girl, to get a big amount of dowry. But Anjana does not like Ram due to his timid nature. 

In a parallel story Shyam (Dilip Kumar in double role), who is twin brother of Ram and gets separated from Ram in his childhood, lives in a village with his adopted mother. Shyam absconds from his house when his mother scolds him for not doing anything. On the same time Ram also manages to escape from his house. Gajendra stars finding Ram but he finds Shyam instead. Now Gajendra has to face Shyam who is not at all timid like his Ram who replaces Shyam inadvertently.
