Robert Grainier worked as a logger and railway laborer in the early 1900s in the United States. He lives a quiet and simple life. He loves his wife, Gladys, deeply and dreams of building a peaceful home in the forest.
Robert works hard every day. But one day, a terrible fire takes away everything he loves, including his wife and child. After this loss, Robert feels broken inside. He keeps living alone in the wilderness, far from the rest of the world.
As time passes, Robert watches how the country changes around him. New machines and cities rise. People move forward, but Robert stays in his small world, full of memories.
He meets animals, strangers, and even hears voices in the wind. He tries to make sense of his life and wonders if he will ever feel whole again.
This story quietly shows the pain, strength, and deep thoughts of a man who lost his family but still keeps moving. It speaks about love, loneliness, and the significant life changes that we often do not control.
