Mera Gaon Mera Desh is an Indian Hindi -language ( Dacoit and Drama ) film released in cinemas on 12 June 1971.
After completing 6 months in jail a small-town thief Ajit (Dharmendra) is told to meet Hawaldar Major Jaswant Singh (Jayant) for employment who helps the police to make Ajit Arrest.
Ajit visits the village where Jaswant Singh used to live and starts forming for him who in turn pays Ajit some money. During farming, he meets a pretty and lively village girl Anju (Asha Parekh) and after some initial differences, they fall in love.
The village is feared with the wrath of Jabbar (Vinod Khanna), a cruel and heartless dacoit. When Ajit comes across him he is badly beaten by Jabbar. The situation gets worse when Jabbar abducts Anju after killing her father.
The film stars Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna, and Aasha Parekh in lead roles. Dharmendra was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award the only one for the movie. However, the same was won by Rajesh Khanna for Anand.
Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971) was remade in the Telugu Language with the name Manchhi Babayi (1978).
Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971) was a commercial success and became a Blockbuster at the Box Office by earning Rs. 6 Crores and also became the Second Highest Grossing Bollywood Movie of 1971 after Haathi Mere Saathi followed by Dushman, Maryada, Andaz, Caravan, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Amar Prem, Sharmilee and Mela.
