Naya Daur (1957) is a Bollywood Sports Drama Movie released on 15 August, 1957 (India). The movie was Produced and directed by B.R Chopra. The movie was written by Kamil Rashid and Akhtar Mirza who later wrote story of Waqt (1965) and Dhund (1973) for which he written both story and screenplay. Naya Daur (1957) was later dubbed in Tamil as Pattaliyin Sabatham (1958). Naya Daur (1957) stars Dilip Kumar, Vyajayanthimala, Ajit and Chand Usmani in lead roles. Music and background music was composed by O.P. Nayyar who also composed mesmerizing songs like Aana Hai To Aa, Ye Desh Hai Veer Jawano Ka, Maang Ke Saath Tumhara, Ude jab Jab Zulfen Teri, Saathi Haath Badhaana and Reshmi Salwaar Kurta Jaali Ka. Aamir Khan’s Lagaan (2001) is also inspired by Naya Daur (1957).
Naya Daur (1957) Movie Plot: The movie depicts the story initial years after independence of India where Horse Carts (Tongas) were the main source of transportation and the only source for livelihood of thousands of Tonga waalas (Horse Cart Riders). During that time Kundan (Jeevan) starts Bus services in the Town with the primary goal to remove those Horse Card Riders from the Town to gain more profit.
Shankar (Dilip Kumar), on of the Taange Waalas, complaints for the same. Kundan proposes a race between Tonga (Horse Carting) and Bus and if Taanga wins he would stop bus services in the Town. No one is ready to accept this foolish proposal as no one can think about winning a Horse Carting over a Bus. However, Shankar accept the challenge with the hope that at least he would get an opportunity to prove him moreover if challenge is not accepted life of Horse Cart Riders are going to be hell in future. But ironically no one is going to support him except is love interest Rajni (Vyajayantimala).
