Plot Summary of Hindi Film Dost (1974)

Dost (1974) is a Bollywood Friendship Drama Movie released on 12 April, 1974 (India). The movie was produced by Premji and directed by Dulal Guha.  Dost was written by famous writer Sachin Bhowmick.

Dost (1974) proved superhit on Box Office by earning Rs. 5 Crores approximately (Worldwide) and also became the 3rd Highest Grossing Bollywood Movie of 1974 after Roti Kapda Aur Makaan and Chor Machaye Shor followed by Prem Nagar and Bidaai. The movie was later remade in Telugu as Bhale Dongalu (1976).

Dost (1974) stars Dharmendra, Hema Malini and Shatrughan Sinha in lead roles. Amitabh Bachchan made a guest appearance in the movie whereas Anwar Hussain, Abhi Bhattacharya, Rehman, Saten Kappu, Chand Usmani, Ramayan Tiwari, Asit Sen and Raj Mehra played supporting roles in the movie.

Laxmikant-Pyarelal composed music for the movie Dost (1974) and lyrics were penned by Anand Bakshi. Song Gaadi Bula Rahi Hai sung by Kishore Kumar becomes very popular at that time.   

Dost (1974) Movie Plot

Manav (Dharmendra), a poor middle class young man returns home after completing his post graduation and finds that Father Francis (Abhi Bhattacharya), his mentor. Manav visits Mumbai to find a job but gets a collision with Gopi (Shatrughan Sinha) who tries to steal his luggage. Manav somehow manages to save his luggage and eventually becomes friend with Manav. Moreover, Manav convinces Gopi to leave the change the way of his life by becoming an honest person. Gopi amends his way accordingly but his boss Monto (Anawar Hussain) does not like the idea.

Manav meets Kajal (Hema Malini) and falls in love with her. Kaajal too reciprocates him in positive by going against the wish of her business man father who wants her to marry with Shyamlal (Ravindra Kapoor).

When Manav find obstacles in his love life he relocates to Shimla but soon hears the new that Gopi is arrested by the Mumbai Police consequent upon death of hundreds of children by consuming unhygienic milk powder sold by Gopi. Manav now decides to revisit Mumbai to know the truth and to save his friend if he is innocent.
