Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (meaning - Chaos: Fun Unlimited) is an Indian Hindi-language (Bollywood) Comedy film released in cinemas on 14 July 2006.
The movie "Golmaal: Fun Unlimited" gets its ideas from Mihir Bhuta's Gujarati play called Aflatoon.
The play itself brought the idea from Harsh Shivsharan's Marathi play "Ghar Ghar," earlier adapted into the 2001 Malayalam film Kakkakuyil.
Golmaal: Fun Unlimited is the first film of Golmaal franchise by Rohit Shetty. The film follows three direct sequels: Golmaal Returns (2008), Golmaal 3 (2010), and Golmaal Again (2017).
All four films feature Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Sanjay Mishra, Vrajesh Hirjee, and Mukesh Tiwari, whereas Shreyas Talpade, Ashwini Kalsekar, and Sharman Joshi appearing in three films.
The 2022 film Circus, featuring Ranveer Singh and Varun Sharma in double roles, is a spin-off of the Golmaal series.
Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Sushmita Mukherjee, and Rimi Sen play pivotal roles in Golmaal: Fun Unlimited. The film also features Vrajesh Hirjee, Mukesh Tiwari, Mohan Joshi, Sanjay Mishra, Siddharth Jadhav, and many other actors.
The tentative budget of Golmaal: Fun Unlimited was Rs. 15 Crore. The film did good commercial business and earned approximately Rs. 47 Crore at the Worldwide Box Office. The film is considered a modern cult Hindi film.
Laxman Prasad Sharma (Sharman Joshi) is a meritious college student. He is friends with Gopal (Ajay Devgn), Madhav (Arshad Warsi), and Lucky (Tusshar Kapoor). These three passed out of the college long ago but still roam around the college.
The trio lives in the hostel room of Laxman and always diverts him from his studies. They also compel Laxman to be a part of their mischievous acts, including earning money by wrong means.
Laxman's mother works as a maid for a government officer. Madhav faces a tough childhood with his parents always fighting. Lucky's father leaves him and his mother, marrying again. Lucky's step-siblings make fun of his mutism. Gopal has grown up as an orphan in Jamnadas Orphanage.
Gopal dominates the group, and Madhav, Lucky, and Laxman, a mute, have no option but to follow him.
The foursome is indebted to a petty criminal/garage owner, Vasooli (Mukesh Tiwari), who is constantly pursuing them.
During one such incident, Vasooli follows the four. The mischievous four hide them in a bungalow belonging to an old-aged blind couple, Somnath (Paresh Rawal) and Mangala (Sushmita Mukherjee).
The four overhear them talking about their grown-up grandson Sameer and anxiously waiting for his arrival from America. They also hear about a treasure chest hidden in the house.
Hilarious circumstances force Laxman (Sharman Joshi) to become Sameer, and Gopal (Ajay Devgn) becomes his voice. The four now start living with the blind couple without letting them know that they are four in number.
Soon the four meet Nirali (Rimi Sen), their next-door neighbor. All four do their best to impress Nirali to make her life partner. However, a hilarious situation arises when all four try to turn down each other to impress Nirali.
Babli (Sanjay Mishra), the petty gangster, wants to steal the hidden chest from the blind couple's house. He sends his Sattu Supari (Siddharth Jadhav) to steal the chest, assuming only two blind people live in the house.
When Sattu Supari tries to find the hidden chest, hilariously funny moments unfold as the foursome unintentionally and unknowingly foil all his attempts.
When Sattu fails twice, Babli sends Pandu Ranga (Vrajesh Hirjee) for the very purpose. However, rib-tickling circumstances compel Pandu to surrender.
One day, Gopal and his gang find a secret door in the house and witnesses the secret chest behind the door. While they try to open it, Somnath (Paresh Rawal) appears and shockingly informs them that he knows about the four. More surprisingly the chest contains the ashes of his grandson Sameer.
If Sameer has already died, why has Somnath accepted Laxman as his grandson Sameer? Why did Somnath hide the chest secretly? Why Babli wants the treasure chest? What happens to Nirali, and to whom she chose to be her life partner?
Film Golmaal: Fun Unlimited gives replies to all such queries at the end.
