Ponniyin Selvan: Part Two is Tamil -language ( Adventure and Epic ) film released in cinemas on 28 April 2023.
The film depicts the power struggle during the Chozha rule between ADs 900 and 950. The film further narrates the tales of three rulers, Sundara Chozhan and his sons Arulmozhivarman and Adithya Karikalan. Arulmozhivarman later ruled as Rajaraja Chozhan.
Ponniyin Selvan: Part Two (PS 2) further depicts the conspiracies and the struggle for power between the main characters and those around them form the basis of this story.
The film is a sequel to Ponniyin Selvan: Part One (PS I) released on 30 September 2022. PS-I received a commercial success and earned approximately 500 Crore INR at the Worldwide Box Office.
The film is in the Tamil language. However, the film will also available in the dubbed version of Hindi and Telugu.
Ponniyin Selvan: Part One is mononymously known as PS-I. The film takes inspiration from Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1995 novel of the same name.
Mani Ratnam is the Director and Co-Producer and Subaskaran is the other producer of PS 2.
A.R. Rahman is the Music Director, Ravi Varman is the Cienatographer, Sreekar Prasad is the Film Editor, and Thota Tharrani is the Production Designer of PS 2.
The film has an ensemble star cast such as Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman, and Radhakrishnan Parthiban while several other senior actors are playing pivotal roles in the film.
Kamal Haasan is the Narrator in the film.
The tentative budget for PS-I was 500 Crore. It is assumed that the makers have already planned for Part II and thus acted accordingly. Therefore, the tentative budget for PS-II should be around 250 Crore INR. The future expected Worldwide Box Office Collection is more than 350 Crore INR.
PS 2 starts from where PS 1 ended. When Arunmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) meets with an accident, people believe him dead. However, he is still alive and is recovering from the injuries due to an accident. The trustworthy Vanthiyathevan (Karthi) is with him.
On learning that Arunmozhi is alive, the conspiracy group wants to kill him. On the other hand, Vanthiyathevan (Kaithi) learns of the immediate plans to overthrow Chola ruler Sundara Chol’s (Prakash Raj) son, Aditya Karikalan (Vikram). Meanwhile, Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) invites Aditya to her kingdom, Tanjore.
Who is Nandini, and Why she invites Aditya? Will Aditya go to Tanjore? If yes, will he return safely? What happens to the rivals? The film Ponniyin Selvan: Part II gives replies to all such queries.
