Bidaai (1974) is a Bollywood Drama Movie released on 9 October, 1974 (India). The movie was produced and directed by L.V. Prasad who also wrote screenplay of the movie whereas story was written by N.T. Rama Rao who was nominated for Filmfare Best Story in the 22nd Filmfare Awards held in 1975. Bidaai (1974) was a remake of Telugu Movie Thalla Pellama (1970) directed by N.T. Rama Rao.
Bidaai (1974) got commercial success on Box Office by earning Rs. 4.4 Crores approximately (Worldwide) and also became the 5th Highest Grossing Bollywood Movie of 1974 after Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Chor Machaye Shor, Dost and Prem Nagar.
Bidaai (1974) stars Jeetendra and Leena Chandravarkar in lead roles. Whereas Madan Puri, Satyen Kappu, Durga kHote, Anwar Hussain, Asrani, A.K. Hangal, Birbal, Dinesh Hingoo, Jagdeep, Pinchoo Kapoor, Vikas Anand, Meena T and Jayshree T played supporting roles in the movie. Durga Khote won the Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie. Asrani was also nominated for Filmfare Award Best Performance in a Comic Role.
Laxmikant-Pyarelal composed music for the movie Bidaai (1974) and lyrics were authored by Anand Bakshi. Song Kabhi Khole Na Tijori Ka Taala sung by Kishore Kumar becomes very popular at that time and listed at No. 13 in the Binaca Geetmala Annual List 1975. Asha Bhosle was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song Achchhe Samai Par Tum Aaye Krishna.
Widow Parvati (Durga Khote) lives on the edge of poverty with his two sons and a dumb daughter namely Gauri (Meena T). As the time passes and children grow Prabhakar (Satyen Kappu), the elder son leaves the house after getting married with Pooja (Kamini Kaushal). However, Sudhakar (Jeetendra) manages the situation by getting a job in another town.
In the meantime Gauri falls in love with Murli (Asrani) and wants to get marry but she commits suicide when she is not allowed to do so. Sudhakar falls in love with Padma (Leena Chandravarkar) daughter of a wealthy man Dharam Das (Madan Puri) and successfully marries even after protest from Dharam Das.
Padma fails to manage with her mother in law as she does not know the values of family traditions. Finally, Sudhakar decides to leave the house with Padma and start living in the palatal house of his wife leaving Parvati to fight with her destiny alone.
