Daag: A Poem of Love (1973) is a Bollywood Romantic Drama Movie released on 27 April, 1973 (India) is called Daag in short. The movie was produced and directed by Yash Chopra who won Filmfare Best Director Award for the movie. Yash Chpra also nominated for Best Film category. Daag (1973) was written by Gulshan Nand (Story) and Akhtar-Ul-Iman (dialogue).
Daag (1973) proved a Superhit on Box Office by earning Rs. 6.5 Crores and also became the 3rd Highest Grossing Bollywood Movie of the year 1973 after Bobby and Jugnu followed by Zanjeer and Yaadon Ki Baaraat. Daag (1973) also dominates 21st Filmfare Awards held in 1974 like Bobby. The movie was nominated in 7 categories and won two Awards.
Daag (1973) stars Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore and Raakhee who won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for the movie. Whereas, Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore were nominated in Best Actor and Best Actress categories, respectively. Prem Chopra, Madan Puri, Manmohan Krishna, Iftekhar, A.K. Hangal, and Jagdissh Raj played supporting roles in the movie.
Music for Daag (1973) was composed by musical duo Lamikant-Pyarelal who were nominated for Filmfare Best Music Director Award. Song of the movie created a phenomenon among the listeners especially youngsters. The soundtracks includes Hawa Chale Kaise, Ni Main Yaar Manana Ni, Jab Bhi jee Chaahe, Hum Aur Tum. Kishore Kumar was nominated for Filmfare Best Singer Award for the song Mere Dil Mein Aaj Kya Hai The song was also ranked 20th in the Binaca Geetmala Annual List 1973. Another Song Ab Chaahe Maa Ruthe Ya Baba ranked 7 in the List.
Sunil (Rajesh Khanna) is newly married with Sonia (Sharmila Tagore). During their honeymoon trip Dheeraj (Prem Chopra) tries to rape Sonia when she is alone. However, Sunil comes and kills Dheeraj while having a fight between the two. Sunil is arrested and sentenced to death. However, while returning back to the jail the Police van gets crashed and no occupant is supposed to be alive.
By the grace of God Sunil is saved and meets a very rich girl Chandni (Raakhee) who is cheated and left by her male partner after hearing the news of her pregnancy before getting married. Sunil gets ready to marry Chandni with her promise to provide him a new identity and he would provide her illegitimate hild his own name.
Years after, Sonia who now lives with the son of Sunil, comes to know that Sunil is still alive and living with Chandni. Now, Sonia is left with two choice either to live her live as usual or to frame Sunil for the crime of second marriage after having married with her first.
