
2nd Filmfare Awards 1955
The prestigious Filmfare Awards were initiated in the year 1954. The 2nd Filmfare Awards Ceremony also held in Bombay (now Mumbai) in the year 1955.

Initially there were no nominations for the Awards and the Awards were given in five categories. That is why only five Awards were given in the 1st Filmfare Awards under five categories i.e. Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Music.
However, the numbers of awards were increased from 5 to 7 by dividing Best Actor and Best Category in two subcategories Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. Technical Awards were also given for Best Sound.

2nd Filmfare Awards Highlights

Bimal Roy won his 2nd consecutive Award for Filmfare Best Director. He won first for the movie Do Bigha Zamin (1953) in the 1st Filmfare Awards 1954.

Meena Kumari also won her 2nd consecutive Award for Filmfare Best Actress. He won first for the movie Parineeta in the 1st Filmfare Awards 1954.
