About 6th Filmfare Awards

Filmfare Awards are one of the prestigious Awards given by Filmfare Magazine annually to honor and encourage the execellent talent in Indian Cinema.

Filmfare Awards were initiated in the year 1954 when the 1st Filmfare Awards held in Bombay on 21 March, 1954.

Thereafter, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Filmfare Awards Ceremonies were also held in Bombay (now Mumbai) in the year 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1958, respectively.

6th Filmfare Awards also instituted by Filmfare Magazine and held in Bombay on 10 May 1959. The award ceremony was hosted by J.C. Jain.

6th Filmfare Awards Highlights 

  • Madhumati dominated the 6th Filmfare Awards by winning most awards (9) out of 11 nominations.

  • The category of Best Lyricist was introduced in the 6th Filmfare Awards.

  • Filmfare Award category Best Playback Singer splitted into two categries. The new categories named as Best Playback Singer Male and Best Playback Singer Female.

  • Ace filmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee won his 2nd Filmfare Award in the Best Editing category. He won first for Naukari in the 3rd Filmfare Awards 1956.
