About 12th Filmfare Awards 1965

The glamorous 12th Filmfare Awards were held in Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1965. Filfmare Awards are given to acknowledge and honor the best talent in Hindi Cinema in various categories.  12th Filmfare Awards held in Mumbai for the 12th consecutive year since 1954.

The First Filmfare Awards announced on 21 March 1954 where only five awards given in five categories. Since then these awards have been given on almost every year. However, only five Awards were given in the 1st Filmfare Awards under five categories i.eBest FilmBest DirectorBest ActorBest Actress and Best Music. 10th Filmfare Awards held on 13 June 1963 in Bombay (now Mumbai).

12th Filmfare Awards 1965-Highlights

  • Dosti nominated under 7 categories and won most number of Awards (6) in the 12th Filmfare Awards 1965.

  • Sangam nominated for most numbers of awards (11) in the 12th Filmfare Awards 1965 but won only 4.

  • Raj Kapoor received nominations for Best Director, Best Actor and Best Editing. He won for Best Director and Best Editor whereas Dilip Kumar won the Award for Best Actor for Leader.

  • Shehar Aur Sapna received four nominations for Best Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and Best Story. Nana Palishkar won for Best Supporting Actor.

  • Shehar Aur Sapna also received National Award for Best Feature Film.

  • Ayee Milan Ki Bela received four nominations but could not win a single Award.  

  • Woh Kaun Thi received three nomination and won 1 for Best Cinematography (B & W).
