4th Filmfare Awards 1957

Filmfare Awards are one of the oldest and prestigious Awards given to the Artists of Hindi Cinema commonly known as Bollywood . These awards are given by Filmfare Magazine to honor and encourage talented Bollywood personalities.

Filmfare Awards were initiated in the year 1954 when the 1st Filmfare Awards was held on 21 March, 1954. The 3rd Filmfare Awards Ceremony also held in Bombay (now Mumbai) in the year 1956.

4th Filmfare Awards held on 5 May, 1957 in Bombay (now Mumbai) for the fourth consecutive year. This prestigious award is presented to the Artists of Hindi Cinema to admire and honor their talent.

These Awards were initiated in the year 1954 when the 1st Filmfare Awards (1954)  was held in Bombay on 21 March, 1954.

Thereafter, the 2nd Filmfare Awards (1955) and the 3rd Filmfare Awards Ceremony was also held in Bombay in the year 1955 and 1956, respectively.

4th Filmfare Awards Highlights

• Most Nominations: Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje (4)

• Most Awards: Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje (4)

• Vyjayanthimala becomes the first person by rejecting the Filmfare Award for Best Supproting Actress for the movie Devdas.

• Dilip Kumar won his Third Filmfare Award in the Best Actor category. He received st for the movie Daag, 2nd for Azaad and 3rd for Devdas. 

• Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje was nominated in four categories and won all four including Filfmfare Best Film, Filfmfare Best Director, Filfmfare Best Art Direction and Filfmfare Best Sound Design.

• Devdas was nominated in three categories and won all three including Best Actor category, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.

• Seema was nominated in two categories and won all two including Best Actress-Nutan and Best Story-Amiya Chakravathy

• Shree 420 received nominations in two categories and won both including Filmfare Best Editing and Filmfare Best Cinematography. 

• C.I.D. (1956) was nominated in two categories including Best Music Director - O.P. Nayyar and Best Supproting Actress - Johnny Walker but could not win any of them. 

• Devdas, Shree 420, Seeema and Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje were 1955 movies but were not considered in the 3rd Filmfare Award (1956).

• Raj Kapoor received nominations under the Best Actor  category for the movie Jagte Raho (1956)
